Just phoned my local depot to arrange collection of an item i bought from Japan.
It was ony £30 including P&P

The guy says theres £107 customs fee to pay on the item!
He wouldn't discuss why over the phone and asked me to come tonight so he can explain it.

I can't possibly understand how it would be so high!

Any ideas? Need to try and figure this out before i go collect it!

Fair enough but why that much unless they found drugs in it and you're in for a sting?

Watched too much passport patrol

But now im stuck, do i refuse it and risk losing my original payment and go outfit-less to the fancy dress do, or do i pay the fee and try and claim money from the seller (doubt that would work xD)
I just don't get how it can be so high, i order all the time from out of the EU. Iv'e had items costing 300-400 and only paid £60 charges on them.

Don't see how it can be that much on a £30 item. £10.70 and someone who didn't read the digits correctly?

Absolutely brilliant!!!
£107 says they have opened it. Seen what it is and wanna laugh at you for ordering it

Hehe. Just kidding!!

Work out Japanese tax import export etc. see why your paying soo much

Hahaha sorry that's hilarious!!

But seriously you need to find out why it's so high, I wouldn't pay and expect the seller to refund the difference so be wary

It might be because they don't want an arse in the country? ;)

Just got off the phone with HM revenue and customs...
Really helpful until they found out that it was 24 express delivery and that they can't look into it any furthur because of that.
Gave me some dodgy phone number to ring that doesn't work...
There must be a fault on the customs label or something. Worked out the exact value is £36.01. This is crazy.

Glad you all like the onsie! I think it's friggin awesome! Really want it so i can cruise round in the twingo with it xD

That's my line of business.

Duty is payable on the value of the goods, plus the freight to the EC. Most garments are at a rate of 12%

VAT at 20% is then due on the price of the goods, the freight to your door, the duty, and any clearance charge.

I think they have messed up somewhere, unless some of the charge is the cost of delivery. If you want me to look at the figures, you'll have to PM me full details.

Turns out the shop scribbled the amount so dreadfully, customs thought it was 55,000 yen or something, rather than the smaller 5,500 yen.
The chap at the depot said the best thing to do would be refuse it, then get the seller to re-ship with a clearer label.
So far, the shop is being very hard to deal with.
Language barrier is causing a problem. They keep telling me that they have nothing to do with customs charges, i know that, but it is their fault for writing the wrong amount technically.

When i finally get it, there will be photos with twingo xD
If i ever get it :'(
