everything you need to know about the timing belt on the GT / WIND TCE engine from how to do it, tools required, labour time & precautions from official renault technical data source.
CAUTION! this engine has been identified as an INTERFERENCE engine in which the possibility of valve to piston damage in the event of a timing belt failure is MOST LIKELY to occur. A compression check of all cylinders should be performed before removing the cylinder head.
Repair Times - hrs
Camshaft drive belt / chain AC - R & I - 3.00 hrs
SPECIAL TOOLS
*Auxiliary drive belt tension guage - Renault No. Mot.1505/1715
*Flywheel timing pin - Renault No. Mot.1054
*D4F772 : Flywheel locking tool - Renault No. Mot.582-01
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS
*Disconnect battery earth lead
*DO NOT turn crankshaft or camshaft when timing belt is removed
*Remove spark plugs to ease turning engine
*Turn engine in normal direction of rotation (clockwise) unless otherwise stated
*Observe all tightening torques
REMOVAL
1 - Raise and support front of vehicle.
2 - Remove :

6 - Finger tighten tensioner pulley nut (Fig 150973.10.)
7 - Ensure tensioner pulley positioned as shown (Fig 150973.13.)
8 - Fit timing belt. Ensure marks on the belt are aligned with marks on sprockets (Fig 150973.7.) and (Fig 150973.9.).
Ensure belt is taut on non-tensioned side.
NOTE : DO NOT use timing mark 'B' (Fig 150973.14.)
9 - Remove :
*Timing pin (Fig 150973.8.)
*Tensioner pulley locking pin (Fig 150973.12.)
10 - Turn tensioner pulley anti-clockwise until pointer at position shown (Fig 150973.15.) & use 6 mm Allen key (Fig 150973.16.)
11 - Tighten tensioner pulley nut (Fig 150973.10.) Tightening torque : 24 Nm.
12 - Turn crankshaft six turns clockwise.
13 - Inset timing pin in flywheel (Fig 150973.8.) Rock crankshaft slightly to ensure timing pin is located correctly.
14 - Ensure timing marks aligned (Fig 150973.7.) & (Fig 150973.9.)
15 - Remove timing pin (Fig 150973.8.)
16 - Slacken tensioner pulley nut (Fig 150973.10.) whilst holding 6 mm Allen key (Fig 150973.16.)
17 - Turn tensioner pulley clockwise until pointer is in the centre position (Fig 150973.17.) Tighten tensioner pulley
nut (Fig 150973.10.) Tightening torque : 24 Nm.
18 - Ensure tensioner pulley does not touch cylinder head at position shown (Fig 150973.18.) and if tensioner pulley
is touching the cylinder head : repeat installation procedure.
