Ha, at least I've already got mine... Still cheaper than my old Civic so I ain't complaining.

Knew it was going to go up after the budget last week unfortunately. They already raise far more money from VED & fuel duty than is spent on the roads :(

Gareth was moaning about his. It's silly how much it costs to run a car these days.

What I don't get it free cars based on co2... Since when does a nissan leaf use less of the road than a twingo?

Agreed - what happens when all cars become tax exempt...? How will it be taxed then?

I was taking about that the other day.

Everyone eventually moves to eco cars with free or £35 a year road tax. How the hell are they going to fund the roads???

As said I'm pretty sure the Nissan Leaf still wears out the roads, using road signs and traffic lights just like every petrol car out there!!!!

They've already started removing some of the benefits from low & zero emission cars. As of next year (I think) the exemption from company car tax is being removed, so I'd say it's only a matter of time before they start getting taxed with VED.

My mates rx8 will cost £1030

Isn't that just for first year tax, with it being (still a very large) £475 for the remaining years?

I was thinking the same. Top tax bracket is £475 a year.

First year is higher but on new cars that is usually covered by the dealer, well partly anyway.

It's all one huge rip off!!

Yeah what a nob I was lookin at the wrong page. Who in there right mind is gonna buy a brand new car and say here's £1030 for my first years tax

On top of the 20% you've just paid with your shiny new car, and insurance premium tax...

Lots, Porsche, Audi, RR etc etc are still seeing high sales, if people are affording to buy those cars then that tax won't be an issue.

Just paid £135 for 6 months on mine, think its going to £137.50 for a year after April. Bugger if I'm paying for a years in one go!

My tax on the i-music needs renewing in May. I'm hoping it's still the same as last years £25 ;)
