Just curious if anyone else enjoys a dram or collects.

Once the last of the Aberlour 10yo and Glenfiddich 15yo is wrung out of the bottle, Aberlour A'Bunadh will be on the cards for a taster tonight. Cask strength 59.5% ;)

I enjoy a little bit, once in a while, but have been adding to a bit of a collection for a rainy evening.

Talisker 10yo (~1990 lable)
Dalmore Castle Leod

I'm partial to a bit of whiskey every now and again, nothing as fancy as your favorites though, cant afford the good stuff!

I have been trying to pick special releases or dated single cask bottlings, with a view to putting them into an auction in a few years. The added bonus is, if the bottle doesn't appreciate, you can always drink it  short term temptation is the problem

Being Welsh, have you tried your local Penderyn... Or just sticking to the American or Irish whiskey :?

Seeing as you live in Speyside, you have NO EXCUSE! lol

Johnnie Walker Red Label
2 x JW Black Label (Centenary and New Pack)
JW Green Label 16yr
JW Green Label 180 Cask
JW Gold Label 18yr
JW Gold Reserve
Talisker 10
Singleton of Dufftown 12
Dalwhinnie 15
Cragganmore 12
Seagrams 5 Star Rye Whisky
Bulleit Bourbon (Whiskey)
Glenmorangie Port Finish

Need to raid the staff shop once I get my allowance again, one of the perks of the Job...Glenmorangie's the only non Diageo whisky I own,

I shall look out for some of that, see what its like!

The neat A'bunadh nearly blew my head off. Being non filtered and cask strength, theres a whole lot more going on with the flavour and nose, when compared to the normal chill filtered 40% bottles. A dash of water brought it down to a drinkable strength, still with a wonderfull flavour.

Dalwhinnie 15 has been a longtime favourite. I don't think I have tried any of the JW. Which would you recomend Matt?

IMHO, being Blended Malt, the Green Label's usually a good start.
Black label's quite nice, vanilla notes mixed with a slight peat.
If you can find JW Double Black, it's more peated if you like that kinda thing.
I like my Gold Label, plenty of good woody notes in then, not too harsh but not too sweet =)

We did a tasting a while back here and I tried the Suntory Hakushu and Yamazaki, Japanese Malts.
VERY Complex, they use completely Virgin Casks, fill them once and then sell them. So many different notes in them, very estery too. Hakushu has a slight peat to it too.

One of my favs! Love Oban too............got a small collection but the problem is the bottles are faulty.......I think they leak!

The peatier the better for me...

...Laphroaig is a favourite at the moment.
Ardbeg 10yo is worth a try at a reasonable price.
Corryverekin (or something like that spelling) should keep you warm and happy.
Supernova was voted one of the best, but i haven't tried it. First release is quite collectable

If they're leaking, phone the number on the back to put you in touch with the customer care line.
If you send them in, I'd no doubt see the bottles myself =P well...If they're from the Classic Malts Range anyway =P

I'm a fan of Ardbeg too, not to fond on Laphroaig, Lagavulin or Caol Ila, I'm more a fan of rich smoke than Medicinal/TCP smoke.

That's still only 43% by volume, so prety standard strength for a non-cask whisky if it's the American conversion of 2:1 (Although it could be 49% if using 4:7).

The bottles are certainly distinctive and, apparently Dimple contains whisky from my nearest still, Linkwood. So being a Diageo product, Madmatt may have had a finger in it's production :D

Dimple is indeed still in production :)
Flagship Dimple at the moment is Gold Crest.

Not really tried Dimple in all honesty, or Linkwood for that fact...our staff shop isn't great for Malts.
Trying to get a Speyside Tour so I can go to Moray House and look at their shop, best Malt Collection in Diageo.

Tried Bowmore the other night and it was lovely (as much as I hate to admit it :p)

Got a bottle of anCnoc on the go at the moment - quite nice but not as smooth as, say a Bowmore.

I recently had a bottle of Connemara, which is an Irish single malt. Nice sweet, peaty flavour but a bit "petrolly"...
