where did you study? i'm thinking about going to either warwick (where ford and land rover jag do research) or going to swansea. i'm doing IMI level 2 just now, i won't be doing level 3 because i don't want to waste the year hunting down a broken wire on a 1996 corsa lol

I've heard Swansea Metropolitan University is very good for it. I was going to go for it a while back, but I choose the electrical engineering route instead. May look back into it if this doesn't work out for me seeing as it's only 5-10 mins away.

Do you mean Warwick or Coventry? Coventry is the motorsport engineering uni.

no i meant the automotive engineering course at warwick which from a friendly source told me it's got elements of performance engineering and the formula student race challenge which is sort of what i want to do whereas motor sport, i thought would be more or less full on performance characteristics and design, torn between the two

Once my dad gets back, I'll get him to ask James Aldrich where he learned but I have a funny feeling it was an MSport Apprenticeship....

Just FYI, most Unis that run a formula student challenge car, it's not a part of an actual engineering course, but essentially a club/society/association that any student can join. (of course they're heavily populated by engineering students)

Fair enough. The formula student places I've spoken to before have all run it as a volunteer club rather than an actual part of the course.

yeah dude, you do need an engineering background however, all be it mechanical eng or motorsport or systems and what have you! or you could be self educated but thats still engineering without the paper so it's a ronseal sort of deal right there! i refered to formula student as just an example of the kind of level of knowledge i want to gain ; how to design a car from a blank canvas, how to design an engine, design new internals and components, ecu remaps etc, to the finnished product. basically it's a question of...motorsport engineering, mechanical engineering or automotive engineering, not an arguement over who's allowed into something ...
