Hi

See lots of talk on the forum about 15 to 17" rims, but not really much about 18 or 19" rims. See quite a few traders on ebay selling larger rims for the twingo, but not seen any fitted.

I would really like set of DARE RS 18 x 8 ET35 with 215/35/18, but don't want to splash out quite yet.

I do have a set of 18 x 7.5 ET40 with 215/35/18 rims sat here that I took off my old MX5 before I sold it. Does anyone know if they should fit or rub etc before I get the tools out. Been thinking about this all day. If it weren't peeing down with rain all day, I may have got the answer by now. Not sure the style will suit the Twingo though. Any opinions?

Totally over wheeled the arches on the mx5 and I fear will do the same to the 133. I personally wouldn't get bigger than the 17" cups. 17" and lighter would be a good bet I'd say

I do like the OZ coloured rims, but not the price. Have considered getting the standard wheel powdercoated orange with matching coloured graphics.
Those 18"s did sit the MX5 quite high as it was running stock suspension.

with et40 I doubt they would fit, even if the centerbore and pcd was suitable.

205/40/17 et55 are fine but the theres not much room left unless you can handle some rubbing on full lock. At et43, theres only a couple of mm clearance for 195/55/15.

18's may look good but i expect the handling would be interesting :?

I think 18" would look too much on a twingo unless you were doing the full on euro look

Thanks for that singlespeed. Saves me the trouble of putting them on.
I take it the stock wheels are 7 inches wide. I think I read they are an ET55, so with that in mind they are quite tucked inside the arches. They look like they need a spacer to fill the arches a bit more. With this is mind a 17" rim with ET35 should fit if I keep the contis.
Do you know if I'd get any arch rub once I fit some lower springs to get rid of that arch gap.

I do like the Euro look which is why I was thinking of the Dare RS rims.

theres a sticky post at the top of the wheels section which may help deciding what to go with

Yes I read that and it says the ET35 17s will fit, but doesn't say if lowered.

Mine are 15x7 et20's and are fine.
but your choice of tyre size wouldn't be classed as normal by many people  I bet they wouldn't be fine with a 195 or 205 section fitted.

Et35 with a 195/40/17 can rub when loaded so the same would probably be true when lowered ;) the sticky post only has combinations which have been tried

Id still say they would fit with 195's its only the height of mine thats meaning im having to use such stretched tyre.

But i do agree it aint normal Lol.

Fitted the rears today. They looked awesome and the fatter directional rubber made it's arse look much more sexy, but they just rubbed the arches especially on the drivers side over speed bumps.

To be honest 17"s look huge on the twingo 18"s would kill the look an the responsive handling.

Funny thing is I remember back in the day having 17s on a hatchback was crazy. Had a mate with a Nova turbo on 17" TSW Venoms which were the nuts at the time (around 2001).

Now days 17" rims seem to be the norm yet when you think about it is still a massive size rim for such a small car. As said I reckon 18s would look too characture car. Big rims work if you drop the car on it's ar$ but in turn make it drive like crap haha.

True words Alex. The Twingo arches just aren't up to the 18's. It's not so much the wheels, but the available tyre sizes compared with the offsets available. I'm sure a custom built set of wheels by Image or the like could sort out the problem, but at a cost.

I have decided to actually fit a set of 16" rims now with 195/45/16 and a set of lowering springs when time permits. The reason for 16" is that i need to run a long term test on a prototype set of rim protectors I've had made in 16" size.
