Okay guys, so I've had my Twingo for 7months now, and still loving it!

This is only my 2nd car (I'm 19) so I'm looking for some advice on the best way to keep it looking its best. Every time I've washed it, I've used 2 buckets, grit guard, wash mitt etc.

I tend to rinse it, get as much road film etc off it as I can, use AutoGlym Shampoo conditioner stuff, dry it off but I've never waxed it or polished it. Still looks great, but should I? How often? And what products work best for you guys? (Twingo is white btw) Oh, and swirls. Car is fine but the bonnet is slightly swirled in places. What causes that and what can I do to get rid of it?

Also..Tar Remover.. Car has a few tar spots on the boot now. Do you do this before, after, during washing/rinsing car?

Finally.. Wheels. Now, I live at the top of Scotland (Near John O Groats) so winter here is pretty harsh so my wheels see their share of muck! But my car slid off the road in January. No damage..except to the wheels, left hand side are kerbed a bit. What can I use on my wheels that's not gonna make the paint bubble or strip off?

Sorry for this rather long, n00b thread but I love this car and want it to stay tip top!!

Thanks guys :D

Not sure about the swirls as that's something i've never tackled as alot of people recommend using a machine polisher for that purpose, which i havent got, nor can i afford.

To remove the tar, i tend to wash the car first to avoid rubbing any dirt into the pain, then just re-wash the bits you have removed tar from, i.e. the sills/front bumper/etc. I use Valet Pro citrus tar and glue remover, came highly recommended on the 350z forums.

If you can afford it, snow-foam is a great way of removing the lose dirt and grit off the car before a proper wash. Some people see this as gimmicky, but i never wash the car without it, less for the wash mitt to pick up must be good.

I like to polish (I use dodo juice lime prime lite) once a month, its also a paint cleaner which will strip the wax (i think) so I always wax the car after I polish it. Tend to wax the car the same day as polishing, then leave it a couple days, wash again, and reapply the wax again. Some people do this 3-4 times, I just havent got time!

I use Dodo Juice Supernatural (panel pot for £15) as that's what i have lying around.

Not sure if this club has discounts with people in the detailing world, but I have used cleanyourcar.com for a while now and couldn't recommend them highly enough. (Hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes here!)

You will need to have it machine polished to remove swirls. unless they are very very light which maybe hidden with poorboys white diamond (as you car is white) ive used it before and it works on slight marks in paint as its got some fillar stuff in it.

Tar Remover. i use after the first wash so all the main stuff is off and its stuff stuck on left. then just spray around car with remover wipe it off then wash it again to make sure its all off paint. quite a few products for that IronX, Tardis, ive got some stuff that i cant remember name on which you stick on a pad and wipe over which is very good.

Bilberry Wheel Cleaner is your best bet with a wheel brush and small brush. also suggets get Wolf Chemicals decon gel which will remove tar marks from the wheels. its safe but does take a while to work. then maybe seal them one done so the dirty can be easily washed off for a little while

Sorry for the quotes from your post. only way i could remember what was said.

i hope what i said has helped.

I generally just rinse it down, then i've currently got the RS shampoo (from the TLC package that come with it when i bought the Twingo), but I use Auto Glym shampoo normally to wash it, then rinse again, then quick dry (with help from the sun), then I use Auto Glym polish to finish it off. I just use old rags to put the polish on and then off with, and a microfibre cloth to take the little white bits away. I am definitely no cleaning expert, but this works for me, and the car looks lovely afterwards. Never tried waxing myself but that for the next time I clean it. Ive heard the Dodo juice wax is the best, so I'm gonna go look for some of that, i'm presuming Halfords sell it.

Halfords don't. But they do sell some others that are underrated. Dodo juice is far from the absolute best, but It is very subjective and it's probably the best at blending fun, performance and price. Although the marketing is quite gimmicky. Remember the two owners backgrounds are in computers and marketing, not car care products, and it shows with their clever use of marketing and forums.

Everyone will have their favourites, if it works for you then that's probably what's best.

Have to agree, you can get a lot of products from Halfords that people that are new to detailing overlook, in part because a lot of detailing revolves around brand image.

Hence, Dodo Juice are very popular due to a combination of image, pricing and being generally good products.

To the OP, give Autoglym Super Resin a try. Admittedly it's full of fillers so will only mask swirls but I've found it to be very good and in fact I'd say it's done as good a job masking swirls as the Poorboys Blackhole I've used on black paintwork.
