would it be safe to drive with the bonnett slightly open or just daft as it would blow open. it would be using lifters/spacers.

stick a couple of longer latch bolts in + some washers. cost you less than a pound, bingo!

here is a good example of how longer bolts and washers raise the bonnet without the need for expensive as hell raiser hydraulics :) it's something i'm doing next week btw ;)
ironically ... it's beneficial to a turbocharged car although it might look silly unless heavily modified. with all that heat in the engine bay and with nowhere for it to go .... heat rises .......

Raised at the front could be a bad idea as air pressure is quite good at moving things so allowing air under the front edge of the bonnet would try to lift it. If the latch fails, its time for a new screen and bonnet as a minimum.

Spacers between the hinge and bonnet skin to raise the rear edge as oscar has posted ;)

Oscar I'm thinking of doing this but won't rain get in under it and curse rust ? :/

I had one inch spacers at the back of my bonnet for a VERY short period of time - 5 mins.

A. It looked pish.
B. The underside of the bonnet is unpainted under the bracket.
C. The raisers also raised the pitch of the front of the bonnet, enough to put a gap above the headlights that would catch air...maybe smaller raisers would work but I'm not risking excess air pressure under the front lip of my bonnet!

For a bit of extra ventilation, just remove the rubber seal from the scuttle panel. That will leave a fingers width gap without raising the bonnet.

Could be interesting to see which way the air actually goes :?
If the engine bay air pressure is less than the pressure at the base of the screen, air will go into the bay not out from it. The change in angle from bonnet to screen isnt too steep, so the air pressure should not build too much... I guess air would come out but, its probably going to be close at highway speeds. Maybe worth while getting some strands of wool and taping them in various places to see which direction the airflow takes them.

I wouldn't ever want to give the bonnet any air in a car based on a Clio mk2!

why? the subaru does pretty well with it's bonnet vents, as do the muscle cars and big power supercharged monsters. i suppose it's a slightly different scenario, but still with the same outcome of flushing the hot air outwards either below or out and over. neils correct, raising it too much would be a 50/50 chance of achieving a good effect. i may look into an focus RS vent on the bonnet i suppose, feed the 'shroom ya know lol
