I've just picked up my Twingo RS, getting rid of my bog standard Clio Dynamique S.

On test driving it, the brakes seemed very unresponsive, as if I had to really slam my foot down on the brake for it to kick in. I'm not used to this as my Clio had lots of room to play with when braking.

Is this usual? Or should I worry?

With it all working correctly, they should stop prety quick.

firstly, with the engine off, pump the brake pedal. 5-6 pumps should bring the pedal up so theres less travel and it should be quite firm with about an inch n half travel at the bottom of the pedal when stomping on it. If its spongey or has more travel, get theres something amiss.
Now, keep it pressed firmly down and start the engine. The pedal will drop by another inch n half as the servo kicks in... the feel will be less solid as the servo is working.

I find my rs also not so responsive. They stop ok, but without much feeling.
I upgraded to brembo max and ferodo with new brake fluid en its a bit better now but not wowzers.
My daily has much more response...

Find mine spot on, enough to unsettle the back quite easily if I'm not watching how hard I put my foot down.

I have noticed the difference too in how the brakes feel.

Along time ago I drove a friend of mine his Polo and the brakes were actually too responsive.

The brakes on the Twingo RS feel not that sharp until you really hammer them (the Wind has the same brakes) and a few days ago I was reminded on how hard they can brake

(B-roads with a truck coming around a corner got me to a stand still quite quick)

Lol! I can imagine!

It may be because it has been sat on the forecourt for a while, so they may have just been not as quite responsive due to that. In any case once I take it to a friend of mine to check it out on Saturday, I'm sure he'll pick up the fault; if any!

Thanks for all the help though lads.

I get the same feeling, light braking is useless but hard braking is brilliant and that's only on OE brakes! Looking to upgrade soon so hopefully I'll get an increase

twingo RS break nether have been really sharp

but they are strong and resistant

they shouldn't be too sharp, not as sharp as non RS cars anyway, much more progressive, would be a lot harder to heel and toe if the brakes were razor sharp.

they should still be extremely strong though when pushing on them, just that initial bite will "feel" weak, but shouldn't be an issue when used to them
