Just had my silverstone keyed all the way down one side tonight.
Have been pissing and moaning all night and now that iv'e calmed down, I need to tackle the issue.
The majority is just the laquer, above the rear arch it's taken paint off. What are my best options except a respray?
I don't know where to start...t-cut??? :|
Help me :(
Thanks in advance guys and gals, alll advice is appreciated.

not t-cut!!! its a very rough mixture, (i made this mistake and had a cricle of scratches)

when my extreme got sideswiped I used meguaires "scratch x" its wonderful stuff and got most of it right out, this was through the laquer layer like yours.

where mine went through the paint (on the edge of the front wing) i had a touch up kit mixed up, apply very very small ammounts and apply "scratch x" between applications. alternatively, if you have the cash (i didnt) that bit you might get a better result getting sprayed.

my advice is for the rather... skint amongst us, so feel free to ignore :)

*EDIT* this was my scratch

Gutted. Hope it's relatively straight forwards fix.

From the cheap side of re-sprays, I've used chips away once before and had a pretty good experience with them. That was on a car with "metallic pearlescent" paint, so imagine they should be able to do alright with the twingo silver.

Isn't it franchise? So hit and miss on the quality depending on where you are. Not something I would chance without knowing myself.

Scum bags :(

Good point, might be worth looking for local recommendations for one of that lot ;)

Going to try this meguaires "scratch x" and see if i can tidy it up, theres a compoany called 'chip it' in my city and the mechanics i work near highly reccommend them and rekcon i will get it with discount if i mention them :)
Going to speak to them first and see what they will actually be doing first.

Has any one seen that clear paint protection film by 3M? If i had the car wrapped, not only would it protect paint from chips and bird crap, maybe it would be harder to key too. Might have to look into it...

Or possibly look into ceramic coatings. Car pro do one that looks impressive and all their kther products have impressed me so far. Wouldn't stop someone should they want to but will reduce damage and wouldn't be visible like a clear wrap over that large an area.

As for scratch x don't expect miracles. It will help to an extent but would repair much at all

You will find that the main dealers use a smart repairer for the small paint touch ups. Worth asking who they use and seing some of the work. Some of the damage may buff out, where it's just a scuff on the laquer but the deeper bits will need touching in first.

Always gutting to hear about the pointless damage caused by some **** feeling well ard for a couple of seconds

Yes main dealers do, but having seen some of the damage afterwards.... But some say that a few are very good. Wouldn't trust all of them. One at Renault Watford had burnt through the paint and I was asked for my opinion. They removed the badge and repaired (repaired loosely used) on a wind. Whole panel ended up being resprayed as he had made it far, far worse

I don't understand people who do that.. if I ever catch one doing it (not necessarily to my own car) I'd scratch his face to the ground! Gets me so pissed.

Someone keyed my old KA before.... Don't know why they bothered it had a huge dent in the side and rusted to death, just shows how pathetic people are!

Hope it's not too bad and gets sorted soon!

I agree with this to a point... Using Scratch x by no means removed all the damage from my car, I was sat outside next to it for two hours with various methods etc... Whilst it is not perfect, the scratches are now very very faint.

Like I said, my advice is for those who dont have buckets of cash (evident by my lack of a 133/ GT/ Dynamique/ car that isn't an ex rental car)

It goes without saying that a respray of the effected area would provide far superior results than an at home remedy, but as far as a "DIY" fluid... scratch x is the one I have found to be most effective.

gutted for u mate!!

some horrible people out there that deserve their fingers chopping off!!!

when my MG got done, i got my mate round with his polisher coz i had an accident with mine  that seemed to get the majority of it out, will dig out some pics

Maybe a reason to give the car some loving with a detail and get a machine polisher on it to see how much damage there really is and then decide what's best to do?

Not something I would recommend. Blindly polishing to see how much damage there is/ how much paint is left... That will end up with strike through!

Oh don't listen to me! thought with a good thorough clean it would clear any nasty bits away so no more chance of scratching so you can then try polishing it out :(

Absolutely. Wash with a quick wipe down with some ipa or some alcohol wipes to ***** the true damage first. Depends how deep it is, how much paint to come off to level it out as such, effectively what polishing it out will do. Hence my advice to not just polish it, as you would be removing loads to nothing to match it.
