Car Insurance?!

Can anybody explain how ive just insured my BMW 328i for less than the Twingo?! :shock: Same post code, driver etc. :lol:

When i spoke with a insurance company they said its down to cost of parts awell. Maybe thats the reason for it

Insurance is bloody stupid at the moment! It's cheaper for me to insure a 200sx than it is a 172!

Fair point. But still much quicker and bigger than a Twingo, so potential and scale of damage is much higher

Just got some more quotes. Modded Twingo = £650. BMW 328i = £600?!

Insurance companies here the word modified and automatically presume your going to drive like a spaz all the time so that makes it more expensive no matter what has been done to it

My insurance company nearly declined my change of car when I got the Twingo coz it's got black wheels and stripes! Stupid people! I argued with them coz what difference does the paintjob have to do with anything?

So I can drive a tonne and a half of german tank capable of 140+mph and 0-60 in around 7seconds for less than a little french box that takes an age to get over 110mph and 0-60 around 8/9 seconds? It doesnt make sense from the viewpoint that insurance is primarily based on actuarial risk.

The BMW if its a newish one is probably seen to be more safe i.e insurance is also calculated on risk so the more airbags etc. crumple zones and Ncap rating the lower as you are less likely to recieve an injury b ut other than that it seems ridiculous!

I suppse it does, because as soon as you say "modified", the actuarial risk rockets based on all the chav boy racers with lowered Saxos and the like.

A "standard" Beemer will therefore be seen "statistically" as safer than a "modded" anything :idea:
