After much thought over the past few months I'm taking the plunge.

On Wednesday I'm visiting my local AFCO(armed forces careers office) and going to start the application to join the army in the REME as an armourer.

I know they'll try push me into infantry again but I am willing to be on a waiting list for quite awhile.

What armourers do is look after the weapons by cleaning and fixing them I used to be pretty good mates with the last bloke who was posted here as the armourer and he seemed to enjoy his job the best bit about it is that you can really see the world because techincally anywhere we have troops we have weapons and you'll be able to go there to look after them :) nice 3 years in Cyprus or gibraltr would be pretty mint

Stick to your guns with your choice of trade

If theres slots to fill on an entry thats going to be starting soon and you meet the entry criteria, they will try to fill them

good luck!

ive got a load of friends in the navy, although as they say they get loads more money for not getting shot at lol
Quite right. The bravery of (hopefully) being out of range ;)

Although any of the services could equaly be detatched to somewhere nasty. My Mrs did a tour in Basra with the Engineers, which was a change to the Engine bay rebuilding and testing jet engines

Good luck dude :) I come from an Army background although chose not to follow that path myself, if I was single might have been a very different story! Dad was RE for 20 odd years finishing uo as WO1, Step Mum was RLC and my big brother is still serving as a LCpl Port Op in the RLC.
