I got to drive my dad's new one yesterday :D

We made the long trip from Clackmannan to Buckie (near where Ollie133Cup lives) to go and look at it, take it for a test drive and maybe even put a deposit down on it.

The car's in pretty good condition, I'll get some pics up once I've given it a tidy up :p
The previous owner put a Cat back Ktec exhaust on it (with resonator mid section) and it sounded gorgeous.
Other than that it's pretty standard.

My dad test drove it and then asked if I was ok to, seeing as I'm used to the way Renaults drive.
I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was, first time I've ever experienced torque steer! Probably more down to the dodgy tyres on the front.

Major differences to the 133 Cup...
1. No ABS - Pedal pressure is stupidly high so you can modulate the brake pressure better.
2. Steering was lighter - Genuinely wasn't expecting it to be as light as it was!
3. Gearbox was quite slack - It did have 69,000 miles on the clock!

So, has anyone had a 172 Cup that could suggest some improvements?
Especially if it's a short shift kit or anything like that, it's going to be my dad's new rally car :)

We're going to pick the car up next Saturday and I get to drive it back home :D

Ah Buckie the place of Incest..

My Brother has a 172 as his daily car along with his s14a , the only thing he did was put coilies on it as the cars are so much fun to drive anyway.

Ooo is he going to be doing any of the tarmac rallys this year with it ?

It'll just be Nat B specification for Road Rallies etc, my dad doesn't really do Stage Rallies.
Possibly move onto single venue at some point.

Because he'll be driving on everything from B roads to Broken Whites (rutted farmers tracks), he needs a good compromise with ride height and stability.

de cat makes a big diffrence then cams and a remap

They are brilliant cars, a lot quicker than a 133 but the interior on them isn't as nice. Well not in Cup form anyway.

As for the torque steer, that wont be to do with the tyres, just a fair bit of power through the front wheels and not much weight. Just gotta gun it and hold on! Lol

Interior definetly isn't as nice, pretty boring and basic but at the end of the day, it is gonna be a rally car.

Airbags will be coming out with front seats and steering wheel.
Passenger airbag will be cut out of that section of the dash to allow room for the Trip computer.
Base of the rear seat will be chucked and the metal support of the rear seat will be cut to bits to take the weight down a bit.

Not too sure if it will pass noise however

My dad's planning to do the following:
Front Brakes - AP 4 Pots, 300 x 28mm Grooved Disc
Rear Brakes - High Carbon Grooved Disc, Mintex 1144 Comp pads
Bias adjusters on Brakes with full braided lines.
Duplex brake cylinder attached to OE Handbrake Lever for Hydraulic Handbrake.

Uprated Supspension
Full front/back Bracing

6/8 Point Cage.
Racing seats, 6 Point 3" Harnesses.
Sparco Steering wheel
Brant Tripmeter
Front Mount Spotlights

Duraluminum Sump and Tank guards
Full Skid plated Exhaust

High Flow Motorsport Filter
Iridium Plugs
8mm Coil Leads
Fully Synthetic Oil
HEL Oil Cooler
