Clio v6 side air vents

Ok, was watching an old episode of top gear, and they were reviewing the clio v6. In the video it was chucking it with rain.

Now my question is, how do the air vents stop water and moisture getting into the engine?
Is it possible to have front air vents on a Twingo, and not get rain etc into engine? (if that makes sense!?)

I'm guessing the vents aren't completely air tight to the airbox, if that makes sense?

As in the vents guide the air in but there's probably another tube further inside the bodywork at a point where it won't just suck in everything. May even have a drain at the back to let gathered water out. :)
 
Airbox is higher up than the side pods and water ingress is not a problem as behind each pod is an electric cooling fan !
 
They're not all that though :p

They also cost in the region of ~£70k each and sold at ~£27k each...

Phase1 was cooler than phase2 as they toned down the handling to introduce understeer to try and correct the snappy oversteer (the chassis was shorter than the clio and rwd with relatively torquey engine) and they built and developed each ph1 at TWR. Those who know who that is ;)

I also have my reasons for disliking them other than that :p
 
This is more like it, i was wanting some info about it!

So, basically it's more complicated than I imagined, and a similar system for a front intake is not possible for the Twingo!?

Lol, soz if I sound daft but just interested and trying to think out the box a little! Lol.

How do you mean like a front intake?

I've been around v6's a fair bit but can't claim to be intimate with the engine bay other than having a good poke about one and going out as passenger in one a fair few times
 
Ok, think I am being stupid now.

I was assuming these intakes on the v6 were attached to some form of airbox and then fed straight into the engine.

I thought if a front air vent was made out of the fog lamp or somewhere on the twingo and fed straight into the airbox on sumhow this would increase air flow!

But doing this on the front would allow lots of water etc into the air intake!

So I was curious on on how hey managed it with the low intakes on the v6.
 
Ahh makes slightly more sense.

Away from what you were looking at, a number of astra vxr's have air intakes in the fog lights holes. Worth a look at I'm sure. The most noticable i've ever seen at any show. Most people that have these as blanks on clios etc seem to do it for additional air feeds to cool the brakes, not to the air intake.
 
Ok, ile look into the vxrs.
I have seen a few ppl using them for brake cooling, but I thought why not use them for engine air feed! I really want to figure this out! Haha!
 
Probably because in any country where there is a risk of flooding it's not really practical...
