Hello

I am a new owner of a gordini (for 3 days) and i have already some problems... :(
I live in france (Lyon) It is quite cold in the morning -0° / 5°.

As some of you, I am dealing with a cold start problem. I need to wait for 1 minute to get the engin ok to go, unless, it "jerk / Jump / wuble / tug (insert any correct traduction for this annoying this !)".

This is what i have found on the net :

- Factory Reprogrammation ?
- Change the spark plug
- Change the ignition coil
- ...

For those of you that have dealt with this, please inlight me, the seller (a pro) told me that it was normal for any RS car, but I higly doubt it...

Thank you !

ps: a presentation + car pictures will come as soon as the weather gets better ;) And sorry for my english

Common renaultsport kangarooing as the map gets the catalytic convertor up to optimal temperature as quickly as possible. What you were told is correct.

You can drive around this to an extent, I shift into second ASAP and the throttle is less sensitive at those lower revs and I don't really notice it anymore.

Otherwise a remap as you suggested would help.

Welcome :)

There is a new file which could be programmed to the ecu. Chris (weebob) had this done to his 133 and it helped a bit.

The recommended spark plugs are now tripple electrode, these may help with a better spark. Also, check for water in the hole where the spark plug/ coil sits. The two nearest the airfilter are prone to getting water in

The new spark plug definitely does not help with the cold start kangarooing

Ok thanks for the answers !

Do you know what could be the price for a remapping (outside the renault guarranty ?)

I have a Renault Sport garage not far from where i live, I will ask them in one month (waiting for the car guaranty to be reconducted with my name)

MAP sensor mate. common problem with these cars, although this is only an educated guess and not the guranteed fix to your problems, i hope you can respect that i'm not able to have see your car in person to give you a correct diagnosis. when you start the engine (especially when cold) the MAP sensor (manifold absolute pressure) detects the pressure of the air coming in, basically it works on the basis that for each degree celsius in temperature, the pressure will differ and give a variable voltage output that the ECU will read for example a reading of 4.3 volts at atmospheric pressure will relate to a certain temperature. this is input to the ECU so that it can trigger the injectors to inject the required fuel, usually on a rich cycle (where more fuel than normal is required) until the engine heats up and the thermostat is opened. it may require some reprogramming of the fuelling parameters according to your particular climate, remember that the cars all come out of the factory with the same ECU programme so it's a one size fits all scenario. someone in spain wouldn't need to worry about cold starts, whereas you and a few others like me who live in places with very cold winters ... cold starts wont be so fun!

hope this helped dude

My car is almost brand new and its always done this since it was 7 miles old. My friend with a Clio 200 told me to expect it as it is common with all renaultsports and like maggi I try to avoid 1st. Its a bit embarrassing when you try to pull off quick in 1st it kangeroos and then starts wheel spinning :(

Ok thanks so much for all your answers. I am starting to love my new Twingo (2nd own car ) as much as i love my first car, a grey Twingo 1 from 2003 !

This forum looks great also ! As soon as i gotvthe time, i will contribute as much as possible !
