Hi all, just noticed last week while washing my car ma wheels are beginning to bubble under the paint, a visit to my local dealership and a wait of a week for the return phone call they re now telling me they are refurbishing the wheels rather than replace them?! This normal? I'm not particularly wantin wheels refurbrd when in 2 years I've kept them kerb free, please help!

As long as they are done well a refurb job will b fine it's not going to damage the wheels in any way, sometimes especially with the black gloss 17" wheels there has been cases of poorly painted sets wheels can bubble if there is a slight chip say a small stone chip which u wouldn't notice and then water pushes in underneath and bubbles up so I'd say they r being quite kind in doing something as they normally r not so giving unfortunately :(

As said a refurbishment will be absolutely fine provided they do it properly.

By do it properly I'd consider it a tyre off job, strip the finish off and totally respray them.

To be honest a proper refurb can be done to a better finish than standard. I'd certainly say that the wheels I've had powdercoated/polished etc by a professional place have had a better finish than standard. :)

Thanks all, going by the service i've had from my dealership i think they'll just break the bead and paint the face! Which i dont want! want the whole thing stripped and painted, time to call renault uk?

Well only you can see how it goes mate and if your'e happy with it.

Admittedly as much as ideally you'd want the tyre off, the wheel stripped and re-furbished there's nothing fundamentially wrong with them just doing the face of the wheel.

If you went for a mobile wheel repairer that's exactly how they'd do it.

Yeah i know what your saying mate! im considering asking if they'd allow me to use ma mates powdercoating firm who specialise in alloy wheel painting, £200 for all for to the public but to me tad cheaper but i suppose i can only ask,

Woulnt mention he's a Mate to them. In case they get funny. Just ask they go to a firm of your choice

Wel worth asking if they'll cover the cost for someone else.

The reason they may be keen is that if the finish isn't quite right you take it up with the other company not Renault.

My Mrs Twingo had a chip on the A pillar when it came in new and there was a bit of a faff trying to sort it. I requested using a local trusted bodyshop and they were happy for me to do so. At least if they didn't do it properly it was the bodyshops problem for me to resolve rather than them.
