For something like that a blog is probably quite a good suggestion for you Rob.

Do you have any web-programming knowledge?

If you wanted to set up your own site you'll have to buy your domain & a hosting package (often can get them to come bundled together - and it's worth remembering that you only buy the domain name {in your example www.robpritchard.com} for a year or two at a time - it's not a purchase and you own it forever kind of thing.)

You'll then have to program up all your pages to set up a blog/cms type site (coding yourself or installing/customising something like drupal). Then you can go about adding your own content.

If you're happy to go through something like that then go for it - it can be good fun, but if you don't really want to get your hands into the coding/set up stuffs then an area on an established blog site might be more useful to you, and allow you to get down to adding your content faster

Not as weird as people doing it :D
I think theres plenty of evidence within these walls to back up the comment by James ;)

Hey mate, firstly you need to register yourself a domain, I can recommend a few reasonably priced domain registrars if necessary. :)
Then you need to get yourself some hosting. There are some good free hosts out there but unfortunately a lot of them will stick advertisements on your site so you're best paying for a host really. My friend runs his own hosting company so can probably get you a good deal, again, up to you who/where you host with!

Then you just need to be nice to a website developer and pay some money in their direction, or you can give it a go yourself with a web design software application such as Microsoft Visual Web Developer. Granted, it's perhaps not as good as Adobe Dreamweaver but MVWD won't cost you anything :)

Let me know if you want any help or advice!

Exactly as Sam says above. I wanted to start a car club so did a bit of finding out and bought www.Built-Not-Bought.co.uk and www.Built-Not-Bought.com.

I pay about £6 a year for each of the domain names, then about £140 every 2 years for the web space and hosting of the forum software.

You can design and upload a web pages fairly easily with software rather than writing all the code but if you want stuff that's elabourate and professional you'll want some help from a web developer type. I know I did haha.
