How co2 emissions change how much of the road a car uses and therefore change its tax I still don't understand. I was under the impression it was a licence to use the road in the first place

Well I was under the impression the tax was meant to go partly to road improvements but I haven't seen much of that

Damn hippies, eat my 199 co2's!!!!!

All seriousness, Id be a little annoyed if it spent the money on a just sub 100 co2 car to enjoy no tax (not that the last couple of brackets are a fortune).

bring on the Twizy

This hasn't been the case for decades, the money from VED just goes into the pot and is used for whatever they like.

The car tax system has been ****** since they changed to emissions, it's backwards. It also means the gov. will start to see less money coming in from it which is why they're going to change it.

EV's just got shafted in the latest budget for example as the gov. realised they get no tax from them.

Give it 5 years, performance cars will truly be a luxury again as they will be incredibly expensive to keep on the road.

Exactly. I thought a fair chunk went directly towards abused women or something and none directly towards roads at all.

Don't they add the rfl with the number plates in America? A system that with modifications and direct correlation to road use could actually make sense and still bring in the dollar

VED should be incorporated into fuel prices. It means you pay more the more you use the car, the way it should be.

That's the kind of method I've been arguing for for years. Even people that skip paying VED would find it much more difficult to not pay for fuel.

Exactly, why should someone get car tax for free just because their car has been proven to emit less co2 per mile? They could be doing 30K a year where someone paying £260 tax only does 5k a year which pollutes the planet less.

Backwards system.
