Why do dealers think customers are zipped up the back and are muppets

Spoke to a dealer about a car (200) in december got given a price but at the time money was short so never went for it. Called them to see if the car was still there and it was but now they want an extra £1500.

after questioning this he said yes its the VAT that has caused the rise i laughed and told him not to bother.

As far as i was aware vat has only increased 2.5% so if the car was £15000 extra vat would be £375 on top of the price . I just wonder where there getting the other £1125 from do they just dream up figures.

you could probs get them to pay the increase depending on how much you wanted the car/how much they wanted a sale

This is very true depending how much they paod for the car will depend how much they can knock off that price.

Sometimes it does surprise me how the dealership price their cars and price themselves out of the market with them.

My local dealer had an unregistered liquid yellow R26 Megane for sale a fair while after they had stopped being built. It had clearly been sat around for a long time just not going anywhere. They still had it up for £20k even though nearly new ones were about £5k less at least.

it could depend on the spec/colour etc of the car, if its a car that the dealer is stuck with or been left buy a previous customer then u could prob get a bargin (maybe some haggling) ;)
but if its a car that they know will sell on then obviously there gonna try and make as much as poss!

dont forget that there are diff types of duty etc for new cars when they are first sold and also renault could have put the prices up due to the rising cost of the materials needed!!
