hi, been a twingo 133 owner for about 3 months now. just wanted to share my thoughts, wandered if im not alone in this.
I felt really underwhelmed by the twingo at first (even thought i road tested it before buying)
firstly it didn't feel like a 131 bhp engine I thought, then the gearbox I thought was annoyingly notchy, my foot kept pressing on the steering coloumn when changing gear, the steering lacked feel and the build quality wasn't very good.

but now after 3 months its won me over, I started to think of the engine more as a vtec and not judge the performance until in the high revs - preferably 6k or above. I now like the gear change, you can change gear fast, and you feel like your slotting it into gear rather than a stick in rice pudding feeling. I learnt to not press the clutch down until it stops, the steering has feel when your really giving it some through the corners, and I like the fact its built in a typical French way as it keeps the weight down, cars seem to lardy these days!

so was it just me?

I had the same problem with the steering column the steering has more feel at higher speeds, it's an electric system to reduce consumption I believe and make it easy to turn at slower speeds, just like the GT always has to be on the boost lol

Had mine 6 months now from new and love it :) only 1500 miles so far, not reached 6000rpm yet, gonna open her up this weekend :D

Get it fully warmed up, forget about fith gear, hold the gear changes and get the revs up for a bit.
There's the shift light and rev limiter beyond that

sounds like a good weekend up ahead :D
the induction/exhaust note changes for the better at 6k and it pulls harder
only trouble is you change up and have to wait for it again lol
it would be so good if the 133 revd to 8k, then you could change up and drop back in at 6k revs
lovely looking 133 in your pic

Thanks mate, I've not seen the shift light illuminate yet other than when the ignition comes on :D

get some ARP cylinder head bolts and a steel balanced flywheel + standalone ECU and you can go to 8k revs if you wish! this would just cost you the same kind of money as 2007 twingo lol, we can all dream though i suppose eh?

By man maths, if the head bolts are off and your thinking about a balanced flywheel, then steel rods and forged pistons would be a sensible option

we're all girls here though neil. we see the prices and we have black female AWH HELLL NAWWWWWWWWW moment :D forged pistons would be begging for a turbocharger, a grinder, your current manifold and a welder + a donor manifold and a heck of a lot of patience shaping it.

your fault, you mentioned man maths knowing man porn would follow! :p

Wouldn't really agree with any of the points above, except for the gearbox. Over 2 yrs in, still think it's completely rubbish.

lol love your honesty
what do you agree with about the gearbox?

You have to be very gentle with it, attempting a very quick 1-2 change, will almost always result in a crunch. Sometimes happens 2-3 also. Apart from that, very short gearing - fine for gears 1-3, but could really do with a longer fifth, or better still additional gear (wishful thinking).

Don't agree with the rest, as in initial feeling. Loved it from day one :)

ive heard about the crunch on fast changes before, mine doesn't do it, hope it doesnt start too because fast changes are part of the experience to me. ive found a fast 2-3 before has ended up with me being in gear 5, ok my fault I guess but it seems easily done on my 133, maybe stronger gear lever springs would be better
