I'm out tonight and drinking wine trying to make a good impression.

That did make me chuckle. I'm the same though, gimme a beer over a wine any day.

Thing is I'd like to be able to appreciate a nice red wine, like savour it properly rather than intend on getting hammered. Sadly whenever I drink it I just think, 'This tastes sh!t' haha

With wine it does depend a lot what you drink, and what you drink it with. Need to go for at least a moderate bottle, and definitely drink at least the right colour of wine with what you're eating.

If you really want to enjoy a wine - go and have some with a meal in france. Honestly - their house wines are better than you get for one of the 'expensive' wines in a large amount of places over here.

Simple solution: pay more for it!!!

There's nothing worse than cheap wine - an extra couple of quid a bottle will make all the difference.

Try something like a good 14% Australian Barossa Valley Shiraz for about 10 quid a bottle and you won't believe the difference.
