Ok I've heard mixed reports on dump valves. Just bought a forge. Can any one tell me what spring to use so it doesn't leak on the mway and the best rev range to dump at? I've also heard these can damage the engine/turbo on this car and are a waste of money as it runs better without?

Mine is fine. I have a forge dv via ktec I have the black (stiffest that came with the kit) spring in mine and it seems perfectly fine. Don't know how much help that is though.

I don't know honestly I just whacked it in and hoped for the best lol. Mine will flutter at around 2000-3000 but anything upwards it's dumps and as revs increase it just gets slightly louder and sharper. Don't expect a long whoosh though its very short and sharp but don't forget it's only a low pressure turbo. I'm such a child I love making mine flutter and dump especially in tunnels :p

Have you got a link to one of these valves - i've been pondering it for a while & a mate of mine (Lee Davies / French car enthusiast / used to run broga racing) recons that it's sound really good on my gt once ive had the lowering springs & k&n induction kit fitted.

This is the one I got.

FCS was French Car Show, usually our biggest gathering of the year.

I have the Reciculating Dumpvalve from Forge.

I used to have the atmospheric from Ktec, and it's alot of fun but after a few weeks it starts to get annoying.

You still hear the reciculating dumpvalve but it's alot more stealthy.

Ghostz was driving behind me and he says it makes a cool sound when pushing hard, he called it a mini-Supra

Have to mention though that it makes a different sound with the costum made pod filter I have on my GT engine.

With the OEM airfilter system, it's alot quiter.

I take it one goes off constantly & one only goes off when you floor it?

dont waste that much cash on a big named make, i got mine off ebay £35, looks identical to da forge item n still working fine 18 months on....

So stiffer the better? Haha. When does it blow off on the rev counter?

With the springs the forge spring tuning kit has 4 springs and 2 spacers, you do not want to have the stiffest spring fitted as the it will 'flutter', it might sound cool but what its doing is not releasing all the air and forcing some back down to the turbo against the fins the wrong way which could cause serious issues.

If the spring is too soft it will be constantly venting which when I was testing on my GT felt asif there was next to no boost, ideally you want it to dump a lot at high boost so say around 3500 revs is ideal as then it won't vent on the motorway.

I found the perfect setup for my GT but I honestly couldn't remember what spring I used but I did use two spacers as in the end it was running 19PSI, if I were to go down the turbo route again I wouldn't get an atmospheric DV but a fully recirculating one as most OE blow off valves are crap and won't hold the boost long enough before it gets rid off it.

Plus the sound is bloody annoying.

Edit: I would avoid cheap fakes as you wouldn't drive around with a fake turbo and depending on how much boost it has to deal with it 'could' break.

The best DV in my opinion is the HKS SSQV as it requires no setting up at all as it manages to figure out when it should be venting or not.

Mine does the whole flutter thing below about 2800 revs...hasn't broken yet :-/ maybe should play with the springs again? You got me worried now waitey!!

That's how the flutter sound works :p

Air being forced back to the turbo causing the fins/turbine but to stall/slow down suddenly.

Forcing air the wrong way into a turbo doesn't sound good and can reduce the life of the turbo ;)

Hmm...maybe I should pick a softer one lol. Thanks for that though!!

So I changed the spring in mine again today to the yellow one, seems to be better doesn't flutter anymore and blows at around 2800 upwards (unless it's too quiet for my hearing below that of course) appears to have a fraction longer whoosh when it does release. Does that sound better to you waitey? I hope it doesn't vent on the motorway, any way I can tell if it is or not? My hearing isn't the greatest and my exhaust is pretty loud :-/
