Have been looking for these to start to appear for a while. It's the only way electric cars can properly take off IMO.

Though they don't address where they're getting the power from in this. Unless we can have completely renewable electricity, and a massive infrastructure set up, this will surely pass by!

That is rather good tho. As at least you won't have to weight 3 days to charge.

But yet again how do you get electricity??? Oil and Gas.. Just means I'll be in a job longer lol renewables don't give enough power to be substantial enough for something as vast as everyone having electric cars.

a VERY good idea. And yes, i suppose it is the only way the electric car industry will take off and survive!

Electric cars are not the future, they will fall flat on their arses in a few years.

I agree, unless massive investment in infrastructure has been put in, which will make manufacturers linger longer. But hydrogen is the current obvious long term replacement.

Theres plenty of oil left , its all scare mongering... load of bollocks . I can see Hybrids being very big. but all out electric cars i would say no tbh who wants a car that just 'humms' away lol.

Petroleum all the way! O zone lay F..K you! lol

Hydrogen is the next step, but that's an expensive prices splitting up the molecules......

Someone said something to me about hydrogen cars being produced by Honda? But they are so expensive it will be years before we see them on the roads, maybe even after were all dead :O Unless they come up with a cure for old age.

Hydrogen filling stations are now appearing in the UK. The first one was installed today and is part of a new network so they will be with us before we're all dead lol!

Hydrogen cars are the absolute future and range extender cars are the interim solution. Pure electric cars are pointless.

However, pure electric scooters and "town mobiles" are good. The Renault Twizzy for example is perfect as it's sole purpose is to provide transport for city dwelling folk that do not commute extensive miles to work.

Yep they're out in the States already called the FCX Clarity.

Really? I was just going by what i was told over dinner earlier!

What cars are running hydrogen then? They kept that pretty quiet :S

There's a few running hydrogen around. There's already a couple of busses, there's going to be a fleet of taxis for running athletes around during the Olympics.

Honda have a few hydrogen cars running around. BMW have been working on hydrogen power units for a fair few years. Mazda have been doing work on hydrogen too, plus their rotary engines have a good (comparatively simple) conversion to hydrogen.

I also heard a while back that Richard Branson has been quite sneaky, and already has deals in place for a network of hydrogen power stations, with links to those doing a lot of the development.

+1 :)

Electric cars waste of time for developers and designers, where does the power come from originally. Oh yeah fossil fuels like bl**dy petrol

I think the idea behind it, is that the fossil fuels will gradually be gone anyway and that nuclear power will come into play (but thats a whole different thing)

The idea mainly behind electric cars is the emissions they produce. None? And hydrogen, water vapour - thus saving the o zone layer :)

And how long till they get nuclear up an running especially after japan.

Yes zero emissions from the cars but an increase in emissions from power plants :p

Where does the electricity come from?

And to be fair, the electricity will already have been made, either with electric cars or not, although they will be needing more electricity, they can't produce more than they do now - hence the input from nuclear or renewable sources such as wind, tidal etc ;-)
