Ok installed everything, the wiring, the sub and amp, just need help with the remote wire.

Where can I hook this up to so the amp turns on when the ignition/or stereo does. I have heard of tips to wedge the wire into a fuse in the fuse box that has the correct 12 volts.

Anyone else attempted this setup and can advise? Cheers.

I'm pretty sure people have managed to do it but unsure how. I'm looking at doing it as well and would be good to know

cigarete lighter is 12v ignition live or there may be a dedicated wire from the hu (awaits comment from peeps that have amps). Wedging wires into the fuse holders sounds like a disaster waiting to happen if your on the unprotected side or stray strands of wire bridge the holder :(

Cigarette lighter sounds like a good idea. Might give that a go in the morning. My housemate suggested splicing and feeding into the main power cable on the head unit??

What I don't quite understand is if the remote on the amp requires 12v minimum or only 12v (no less, no more), does more than 12v fry the amp.

Hoping someone on here has done the hard part already :p and identified a sure way of hooking up the remote wire in a stock HU setup (don't really fancy splicing into random wires only to find it doesn't feed enough juice for the remote).

Does this mean the Standard HU had the ports at the back to plug in to?

The standard HU doesn't have the standard RCA pre-outs for amps. I had to splice into the rear speaker wires, feed lines to a special line out connector (which changes speaker wires into the standard red and white/black RCA phono connectors also converting the signal to the correct level/frequency required for an amp). Hard work just to keep the stock headunit! Took 3 hours, even with previous knowledge/experience of amping/subwoofing a twingo and still ain't there yet argh

Then i am never going to manage it. i think il jsut upgrade the door speakers in time.

Update: hooked up the remote wire to the cigarette lighter today using an in-line fuse. I am sure everything is wired correctly but the amp still doesn't turn on, I have tried two subs/amps, with one amp the power and protection lights come on but then fade off. With the other amp the lights down turn on at all. Trip to the local car audio experts me thinks :/

You do have the amp main power wires connected correctly don't you? -
Heavy gauge cable connected to battery +ve with an inline fuse and the negative side to a good chassis ground. The remote cable is just there to power the internal relay to power on/off the amp

If I'm honest, this sounds like a good idea

Success!!

Looked at the install again today, turned out to be a false ground.

In my previous Twingo extreme I simply hooked up the ground through the bolt on the rear light cluster which worked, turns out in the 133 I needed to take the extra step of stripping the paint off before attaching the ground to the bolt, good job i had some spare sand paper hanging around.

I also needed to ground the line out converter which I didn't bother with before just leaving loose. Still haven't found a permanent location for it yet (I've simply wedged it between the spring bolt under the independent sliding rear seat for now which does the trick).

How to guide here: how/guide-how-install-amp-subwoofer-factory-headunit-t6172.html

Good man. I've found the grounding better in the twingo than my old car (which was a nightmare). I used the bottom points of the seatbelts for mine iirc after a small amount of stripping the paint

awesome tip! Will have to look in to this sometime this week as if i flip the rear seat up for extra boot load, i loose the bass lol

 bet that's annoying. My sub is a passive one thats under the passenger seat, so it was local and easy to reach.

Actually thinking about it, the bottom point of the seatbelt also moves with the seat, so if i flipped the seat up it would bring up the ground cable and drag the line out converter with it. Probably will have to find a bolt under the rear side panel somewhere.

I was thinking of an under seat solution, not too keen on a big box taking up the boot, plus i think i'm getting a bit old for tremendous bass (I'm past that phase!!). By passive i take it doesn't need a power line? Hows it sound?

If you come to a meet you can sample mine. Or Karl's even, he has the same set up although on a standard head unit.

I don't like huge bass cos I value brain cells. My music taste compliments the set up perfectly (lots of muse and such like). And I took the bottom of the interior panel off and fitted it to Somethkng but can't remember exactly what. It's in that area

Value my brain cells lol. That would be cool. The sub and amp I have is JL-Audio. It's actually my sisters, she lent it to me (for like a year and a half.. so far!). Being jl audio the.bass.is.bone.shattering so spent all evening fine tuning the stereo settings I have to make do with in order to reduce the bass and make it blend in with the stock headunit. I would put my less powerful FLI sub in but believe it or not, it's physically bigger than the JL audio (so doesn't quite fit without having the rear seat pushed forwards which I'm trying to avoid)

Would be good to hear what everyone else is using for their bass needs for ideas?
