So this morning was the first this winter (and no doubt of many more to come) that my car windscreen had properly frozen over. Time to get to the back of the cupboard of car stuff and dig out that de-icer methinks.

Anyone elses windscreen/windows frozen this morning? Thought I'd start this thread for people to share useful tips on keeping your Twingo's frost-free (unless you're Karl and have a car cover, lol). I know the heated windscreen is there for a reason but when you need to get to work in the mornings, I don't like being sat there for 10 minutes whilst it all warms up, I like to be in the car and gone - no waiting!

+1 :)

In my old place first time I used to step outside was at work. That was pretty awesome. Actually have to go outside to the garage now

I find the heated rear screen and quick clear front screen (from the climate controls) work pretty well on the twingo - not Saab well at ice clearing, but plenty decent enough for our weather.

Slightly envious of that quick clear front screen!

For me the quickest way (and probably not always recommended) to remove ice is a jug of warm water, gently poured over the ice. Warm water does the job as long as it is applied with caution.
I have seen worse, there's this house I drive past every morning with a Peugeot 308 and last winter, she was using boiled water from a kettle to clear her screen - how stupid can you be?! The house in question is on a busy main road, so she literally steps out into the road with her kettle  Used to have a chuckle every morning.

Lots of hand hot water is better than a bit of boiling water. The thermal shock of boiling water may cause a crack, especialy if theres a stone chip to propogate from. Also, the inside temp will not be raised above freezing so your breath freezes on the inside.

A kettle full of cool water to do the initial melting and get it warmed a little above zero, followed by another kettle full of warm water to fully defrost. The time taken to refill the kettle allows the heat/cold to equalise and minimise the risk of cracking

Is there a control for quick clear windscreen? Might be something I have not noticed.

Depends if you've got climate control in yours? It's a feature of that, I believe. :)

Yeah if you got climate control leg hand side where the AC Button and heate rear screen button is. Press the top one sort of a curved screen and it does the quick clear.

And thank god for garages ;)

Since I had sense and bought a cup there's no air con on mine. No frost yet at mine though. Although I didn't get chance to check here over before legging it to the station this morning (still missed the train )

I tend to have very little frost to compete with due to protecting the screen with grechniq. In fact last winter my car never frosted over thicker than a sprinkling whilst others were thick as.
