Free Fuel!!!

Cannot believe my girlfriends luck! She rang me up saying get to asda quick. She said she went to the pump she always fills at, entered her card followed by her pin code, picked up the nozzle and started to fill up. Next minute she looks up and the price has stayed on zero and litres has stayed on zero also. She said she could feel it was pumping fuel so she carried on till it clicked. Printed a receipt and sure enough, £0.00 and 0.00 litres!!!!

She got in the car and yep it showed a full tank! I rushed down there even though I only use vpower, but I got there and they were in the process of padlocking that one pump

Not fair!
Not happy with whichever muppet informed asda.

Girlfriends dad turned up as well haha

I know tell me about it. I would of still had half a tank left next month for Glastonbury which would of helped towards the long journey!!!

Lucky you didn't really. The pumps will be on CCTV, and you would have knowingly filled, then driven off.

Not sure, but your girlfriend could be getting a visit. She has a very good idea that she has received petrol but not paid.
I would suggest that she visits the store tomorrow, advises them of what has happened, tells them that she doesn't know if any money was taken from her card so is unsure if she owes or not, and ask them to get in touch when they can accurately tell her what she owes them.
She is then covered, and there's no way that the store can tell her how much she had, so can't charge for it.

Ellys sister worked at a petrol station. When someone left without paying the staff on duty would get the blame and more often than not Police were NOT informed.

All the stories of free fuel all seem to come down to paying by card. I must try this more often hah.

That will be individual store policy, most likely. As most will be a franchisee. Would Ellys sister be privy to everything management does, also? I wouldn't imagine so, unless she is management?

I have worked closely with a client who runs several petrol stations in Oxfordshire. And the technology is pretty impressive. Every time you pull up, cameras automatically zoom in, focus on and take a screenshot of your number plate and the driver. Totally automated. They can also notify police themselves.

They can also (depending on the age of the pumps as technology has advanced) calculate the ullage (the volume of Free space left in the tanks at a given point) during a fill up so could calculate how much fuel has been taken. However, how many people actually look at a receipt? I would say your girlfriend would be seriously unlucky to be prosecuted as it is the result of a faulty pump.

Its supposedly happened a few times over the last year or two and its usually the pump before it. Since yesterday I've found it happened to a friend last year and they weren't chased for money. Not her fault she's put her card in willing to pay and then its not charged her
