Press have gone quiet. 'All is fine'. It's not.
Reactor 3 blew its core all over the countryside.
Reactors 2 and 4 melted through their containment structures and the radioactive cores are now in the bedrock underneath the power station.
Not even machines can get into areas of the buildings because they are so radioactive it kills the machinery. People would be dead within a matter of minutes.
The earthquake cracked all the bedrock underneath so streams flowing to the sea are washing over the cores, making the water massively radioactive with lonnnng lived, lonnng half-life isotopes of non-natural elements, and it heads out to sea to poison everything it touches / is filtered/ingested by.
This will accumulate in the food chain, meaning ultimately the fish we eat will be radioactive. (Radioactive Tuna have already been caught near Alaska, where a lot of Tuna we eat comes from - check the packet/tin next time you have some, especially ready meals etc.)
The sea is also flowing into the bedrock in the cracks and coming back out similarly irradiated.
Sea water being used to cool what radioactive material remains in the power station structures is also getting irradiated and flowing mostly back out to sea (some 'cleaning' processes to remove radiation are taking place but not much).
The used radioactive fuel rods in the Spent Fuel Rod pool of number 4 reactor are at risk of crashing to the ground because the above-ground pool structure is failing.
If it does collapse, due to the sheer amount of them (1535) and the fact they would be so radioactive no-one (not even machines) could get anywhere near to try to cool them down once they are in a big pile, they may spontaneously ignite and send plutonium particles into the atmosphere.
Each individual rod of the 1535 contains enough plutonium to kill 2.8 Billion people. (Yes, Billion).
This plutonium would circulate the globe in the air and be breathed in by however many thousands / hundreds of thousands / millions of people.
Super-short summary:
If Spent Fuel Rod pool number 4 collapses, every living thing the planet is f**ked for the next several hundred/thousand years and we probably all die a slow, painful death like Litvenyenko, or whatever that russian spy was who was killed by a radioactive drink spiking the other year.
