Well after my 5 year old PC decided to pack up on me completely, I decided it was time to invest in something new.

Now I've not been one of these Apple lovers from the off. I dismissed the iPod because I felt the Sony USB stick type ones were better, until I saw the new iPod Nano and made the move to an iPod! I dismissed the iPhone as a gimmicky fashion accessory until I used one and now own a 32gb iPhone 4. I then dismissed the iPad as just a big iPhone again until I used one and realised how good it is at a variety of things, my Mrs then kindly bought me one for my 30th birthday.

Can you see a theme occurring here! haha So I've even gone to the dark side with my PC and gone for a 27" iMac and I have to say I'm hugely impressed. It's lightening fast, completely silent, looks amazing, has an incredible display and the OS is extremely comprehensive.

I've found the change over from Windows pretty easy which considering I've been using it for almost 20 years is some going. Anyway here she is!

Imacs are pretty awesome. I have one at work. Only thing I actually have to switch to my uber PC at home for is in depth high complexity graphics experiments.

I love macs, sadly due to the main software we use at work (solidworks) not being compatible it would be a waste of money :(

Looks mint by the way!

Certainly for what I use it for the iMac doesn't really have limitations. I store music, edit pictures, surf the web. All the usual stuff really and nothing too taxing. I just wanted something that still keep up with things in 5-6 years time.

I'm hoping to get a bit more into using it though, find out some of it's potential. Makes a nice change from using Windows every day at work too, especially in a support capacity.

I went the other way round: 20 months ago I bought my first iMac, mainly because all my pc's and laptops had issues with flawless playback of music. All things sorted and now iPhone and iPad for couch surfing!

Ive gone away from apple went shopping last week and bought so samsung goodies home

Fail... Reason, they're being updated with the new Chipset at the end of the year, so you've "wasted" your cash.

Otherwise a wise investment, I love my MacBook still going strong 7 years later though it's now struggling with my media editing needs. Hence I too am going down the iMac route but as said at the beginning of next year when the new one is out.

How are you finding Mountain Lion? Then again I suppose you can only compare it to Windows not the previous OSX's....

Why don't you use parallels? Or Duel boot with bootcamp? I love people who have this excuse of Mac isn't compatible, Macs have been able to run Windows since they've been using Intel chips (7ish years)..... Anyhoo back on topic.

Nowt dark about "the dark side" (Apple).

We've had our 27" iMac for nearly a year now and it really is a powerhouse of a machine.

To be honest I'm not too fussed about the next development, I mean lets face you buy anything and it's outdated pretty quickly. In fact every thing I've bought new has been outdated quickly. My Megane is a phase I 225, month later the Phase II comes out, bought a 172 and within three months they reveal the 182 etc. Part the reason I wanted a Mac is because they seem, certainly from many people's perspective to last as they stand for a lot longer. Only thing I'll do is upgrade the memory as I go. :)

Haven't really got a comparison to the previous OS as I only had that for a day then downloaded Mountain Lion (free with the purchase).

So far though I've got to grips with the OS pretty easily, now just want to find other things it can do. :)

Hahaha

Honestly? If you wait for the next thing to come out in computers or phones you'll never bloody but anything!!!

Looks great Alex. I want!

Macs only get updated once a year unlike PC's. ;)

Memory upgrade is deffo, Crucial is a good place to start.

I've had my own build PC for 4 years now.

Never BSOD'd and still runs all the videogames I want.

Apple is way too overpriced for what you get. It's like a BMW, you pay for the badge.

The thing with PCs is they are great, I'm certainly no hater of PCs. If you're prepared to upgrade them and play about you can have a monster PC a lot cheaper than a Mac.

The difference with a Mac from my understanding is that it just works. I work in IT, I fix computers all day every day I'm aware of their flaws and when I'm home I just want to come in, switch it on and use it.

Funnily enough the chap in the Apple store even recommended Crucial as a good place for memory. I'll see how I fare with 4gb but the expansion slots are on the bottom so a five minute job to upgrade anyway.

I bought my 16GB of RAM from Crucial. Über snappy service. I ordered it while I was waiting for the iMac to be delivered.

Nice one mate, did you find that the 16gb of memory made it perform better?

I mean so far this iMac has been lightening with 4gb, from on to being logged in and ready to go is impressively quick as it is.

Well I've gone and done it again!!

My work recently updated all our laptops with the same restrictions as in the office. So basically no personal use and even though I'm in the IT dept, our manager is a pr!ck and forced it on even us.

So I've just got a Macbook Air for my personal use. Gone for an i7 processor, 8gb memory and 256gb if memory. Bonus was that as my Mrs is a teacher I got about £140 off with her discount.

Absolutely epic bit of kit, boots up in about 15 seconds, makes no heat or noise either. Loving it!
