I'm trying to work out how Renault have distributed the Gordinis because from what I can see they've been built and some have been held onto for some time.

For example, I have number 110 which I ordered only a month after the books opened. Now I ended up waiting until the end of July for it because of the blue inserts.

But anyway, that would mean that 109 Gordinis at least were built prior to mine.

Strange how many Gordinis I've seen have been numbered lower, sub 100 but registered afterwards.

Where the hell have they all been sitting until they were registered? Have the dealers just been holding onto them? You'd think they'd want to sell them in good time.

Gordinis not long ago was on the RUK company car list so a few could be sitting round there somewhere

i bet they just have a bag of gordini number plaques...and some bloke just dips his hand in and picks one out at random for each car.....

The VIN no will tell you when it was actually made. Although i ordered mine when the sales staff didnt know about them, I had no 98 cause of sunroof. pritchp is probably quite right though. Some work experence lad sticking them on at the end.

It'd be like the draw for the FA Cup with a couple of French YTS lads instead of washed-up has-been footballers

The whole 'pluck a plaque from the bag' theory could well be right!!

Isn't there someone on here who's got a Gordini well over the 200 mark as well?

Very similar to mine mate, I specified blue inserts before they had the option on the price list. So although ordered at the end of April and the books only opened at the beginning of April, I had to wait. Because I didn't get a production slot it delayed it further. Was handy as when they did go on the price list they were £100 extra.

It's either that they randomly number them or that a lot of ones made earlier have been sat unregistered.

According to my local dealer, most of them ordered at least one on by default so they could advertise the Gordini range. When I picked mine up, they still had their example sitting in the showroom as a demo pre-registered. Wonder how long they held onto it for.

Isnt the one well above the 200 a non Uk one? Not sure how they are numbered abroad?

Mine was an ex demo or something, not sure when it was bought/registered tbh

I couldn't recall if it was a Gordini from someone in Europe or in the UK.

Would be nice to think that the UK got the first 200 or the ones numbered between 1-200 anyway.

Didn't think the Twingo was made at the RS factory in Dieppe?
Could be wrong

Think you're right there, they're not made in Dieppe like the other RenaultSport models.

I'm sure the Twingo is made in Slovakia and the RenaultSport models are made in the same place.

That's a bit gutting for them. Although I'm sure they design RS models for the UK roads and UK market because the French don't buy that many Renaultsports.

No but I bet the basic Twingo's sell in huge numbers in FRance

Yeah I can imagine, the original one seemed bloody popular over there as well.

You do see other cars such as BMW, Merc, Opel, VW and Ford but they do seem to buy French cars in abundance, proberbly why they still have a car industry and the French Gov still has a 15% stake in Renault.

How I think it works, is "pick a number randomly", but all Gordinis of similar/the same specifications are within the same number range. Then they cross-check the numbers in a book so they know how many numbers are remaining. :)

Could be wrong though.
