Hey,

I need help...

my girlfriend is thinking of buying a Polo, and the guy at the garage said he would fit a cd player free of charge but we just need to find one, so for my few questions...

What CD player would fit? does anyone fit?

Whats a good cheap one i could get asap?

It depends on whethers it's single or double din, assume it's single so a standard sized headunit. Also the wiring harness... If it's a modern car it will have an iso connection block which is the standard and will just plug straight in.

To be honest it's not a hard job, literally plug it in and slide it into place.

Even if it's double din, there are plenty of cradles and headunits out there :)

One piece of advice, Alpine. No other headunits come close to the Alpines, end of.

Hardest bit will be getting the old one out, then jigging the new wiring loom into place so the new H/U fits. You will end up with raped hands!!

And at the other end of the scale, stay away from Pioneer headunits... No end of trouble I've had with those in the past...

Job done. Simply amazing headunit, no need for cd's anymore. Just ipod and radio is what it's all about ;)

Thanks Guys for the help :)

and maggi that looks like a great head unit, i think i will look into getting something like that for my car :)

No cos I couldnt fit the canbus adaptor behind the unit with all the wires. Is Im gonna extend them and move it elsewhere. Ill update when I have! Its lovely though 6000 songs and many thousands of house mixes at my disposal :D

Ah I see, does it charge your iPod/iPhone when its plugged into the usb as well? At the min I plug my iPhone into the aux on the front of the standard cd player but something like yours would be better and ive never used the cd player before so I wont miss that :D

Connects u summin or other. Can't remember if it's the ctn005 or 006 or something. One of them! iirc it was actually the 6

Through a mate, but car audio direct do it cheaper than he sells it for.

Just looked the 006 is if you have the additional screen i think. The 005 is the canbus one.

Yup plus you need the adaptor for whichever unit you get.

I've had three different Pioneer units in the past, all top end units and each one has been superb.

The first I gave away in the car it was fitted in at the time and was still going strong.

The 2nd wasn't so good but was a fussy, twin faceplate design which after a couple of years folding up and down played up.

3rd unit lasted me well over 5 years, was fitted in four different cars and the features and sound from it were great. All three units ran at least two amps as well as speakers from the internal amp.

I'd gladly buy a new unit although opted for a JVC unit last time round.

As for fitment in a Polo, you can fit a single din unit in a double din socket as I did this in my Lupo. Just need a blanking plate which you'll get from a dealership for about £5. Any normal headunit will fit in a car, just may need an adapter loom but otherwise fairly straightforward.
