Helicopter carrying 18 crashes into sea near Shetland

Still early days, so I've not heard if it was a crash or controled ditching but either way its not good news. Fortunately not my rig as we are only 30 minutes East of Peterhead.

I guess it will be on the morning news, but the missing have now been found with three bodies being recovered

I've just read the news and apparently like you say Neil they've recovered 3 bodies but a forth has been named too think they have been unable to recover the body as its in with the wreckage.

Such a terrible accident. They seem to be a few of these now where the copter has gone down due to gearbox issues.

It is very sad, but this should be the signal that we need new more reliable helicopters. Norway demanded so why can't we?

It is the worst/most dangerous point just getting to the rig.... This shouldn't be the case.

Most rigs I've been on have been via boat in Qatar and Gulf of Mexico. Much much safer although the baskets are a bit dodgy...
