Hi all,

I am a massive fan of all things Renaultsport, always have been and i am in a bit of a pickle with where to spend my £6k.
I would ideally love a 182 Trophy and put ITB's on it but insurance on a standard 182 for a 20 year old with 3 years driving and 1 years no claims is close to £5k!!!
I was originally looking at buying an R53 Mini Cooper S, my budget would get me a 54 reg facelift with about 45-50,000 miles on the clock. While looking at a Cooper S at a performance car dealership i spotted what i instantly recognised as a Twingo 133 (i think cup but i honestly don't know for sure) it has 17" anthracite alloys wrapped in 195/40/R17 rubber and has a silver/grey wing with no kit on it like climate controll suggesting it is a cup but the only thing is it has sliding rear seats not a one piece bench.
Anyway it is an 09 plate with 69,221 miles on the clock and after some haggling the man said he would go down to £5,750 so in my budget.
I realise the two cars are very different and the Mini is deffinitely faster, more refined and much more up-market but i prefered the drive in the Twingo. The brakes were in a different leauge, there was far more feel through the seats about what the car was doing and it felt much more playful than the Cooper S (on first impressions of course)
So i am now struggling with what to buy. As Twingo owners what do you all think?
Oh and besides buying a Twingo GT and putting stiff suspension on it, what can i do performance wise with a 133 Cup?

Thanks

There is 2 types of twingo 133 the ff (full fat) and the cup both are a 133. Ff gets you all the goodies like climate con troll auto wipers and lights Bluetooth and has the sliding rear seats ect ect but if you want to make it the spec as the cup you would need to buy the chassie upgrade that will get you the17" alloys and lowerd 4mm. Cup you don't get none of that except it comes with the chassie and the 17"s standard and has a rear bench seat, same kerb weight as the ff same speed basically same performance spec so no faster than the ff, you can't get all the goodies as you would in the ff as it is mainly basic but you also do not get a boot light. Fail !

Hi and welcome! :)
Twingo 133 ftw They are such fun little things to drive and will have you smiling daily!!

twingo for the win :)

not really much available for the twingo, filter, exhaust and remap will be a good place to start.

one of the guys on here are having a throttle body kit developed so may be worth having a chat with him (ollie133)

if your willing to spend big money then supercharger conversion would be awesome. engine swap may also be possible but again, serious money.

in reality, if u want a fast car then buy a fast car to begin with.

without a doubt the Twingo will make u smile because of how good the chassis is and the chuckability the car has.

But still they are great fun !!! Turn the traction off and through it round a roundabout and get it sideways !! As I did the other night hahaha. When it was raining :-/

Your asking us for an unbiased opinion

Unfortunately tunning parts for the 133 are thin on the ground and with being N/A, the power increase is never going to be huge without a lot of work and cash. Although the balance of handling/power/brakes does make a brilliant package through the twisties, which certainly makes you smile and other drivers give a double take.

Twingo all the way.

My absolute favourite thing about the twingo is its ablitly to make me smile. As I have said before I am not a great fan of the looks and the build quality isn't great in places, I also get unmercifully ribbed about owning the car by my "grown up car" owning mates, but these all disappears once you are driving it. It is the most balanced and fun car I have ever owned.

In close second is the way the little bugger can keep up with cars its simply shouldn't be able to as soon corner appears.
