Howdy.

Got a strange problem with my fiancée's mk2 megane. These two problems started happening at the same time so I don't know if they're linked.

Wipers still work as normal, but pull the lever for windscreen wash and nothing happens. Can't find a dedicated fuse for it, but wondering if anyone has any tips? (Before someone points it out, yes, there is wiper fluid. There's not even the sound of the pump whirring)

Secondly the radio doesn't switch on with the ignition anymore.

Was basically wondering if a secondary fuse system etc. Or simple cable could have come disconnected making those systems not realise the ignition is on.

Cheers

It may sound odd, but have you checked that all of the cars lights are doing what they are meant to?

The reason I ask is that if there is a faulty earthing point somewhere - a selection of things may not work. Have a look see if the signals operate the correct bulbs and stuff and that there is no "christmas tree" effect on the back.

might be worth following the megane out on a drive to see :)

Ta for the heads up. Just checked and one of the front passenger side bulbs has gone. (Not been noticed before as it's only been driven during the day.) Am getting a replacement for that on Monday so will give that a shot :)

have you actualy pulled each fuse in turn and had a good look at the link wire. Sometimes its not very obvious when one is blown.

Yeah, I've been out with a multi meter to check the fuses

D'oh. Just replaced the only bulb which had gone and still no luck I'm afraid. Will have to have a gander around again tonight or try and book it in at a garage

Just in case anyone else comes across this problem, thought I'd post the solution which I actually came across on the money saving expert forum.

Apparently, if a device fuses in the cigarette lighter socket, it can blow the radio fuse, and even though the radio fuse has blown, the radio can still work. Along with this it can also take out with it some or all of the following
*radio acting like it doesn't know the ignition is on. (Not turning on/off automatically)
*front windscreen jets not working (nothing happening not even the whirring when you pull the lever)
*air con not working
*heated rear screen not working

There might be some others I've missed. The simple fix is,
Replace the 15amp fuse which is marked for the radio or cigarette lighter. It's in the fuse box in the glove compartment, centre line, one from top.

The blown bulb was just a coincidental decoy on mine.

TBH I'd left the radio one as had presumed it would need to not be blown for the radio to turn on at all. In hindsight, should have checked it anyway.
