hi, having owned a twingo rs for about 2 weeks now, its alarming the number of times you hear about steering racks being replaced. So this suggests its a common fault, but that makes me wonder how common is it? is it possible to say?

also, do people think its possibly more common if you have cup chassis? what with the extra vibrations/jolting pushing the lower arm(s) backwards when unfortunately hitting potholes/manholes/poor road repairs (delete as appropriate)

cheers

I've only seen it once since I've been on here, I think it could be down to the state of the roads, don't believe it's a common fault at all

glover it's deffinately not a common fault with twingo's. in my time at renault, i really didn't encounter many steering racks being replaced. the only time we done that was on older clio's but that's down to excessive wear over something like 10 years but that is to be expected. i'm curious to know where you got the idea that twingo's and in particular the twingo 133's steering rack suffers alarming failure?

It happens across the whole range. I wouldn't say it happens more on one type of twingo as it happened to mine within the first month of owning it.

Hi, well that's reassuring that you guys say its not a common problem. I've read about a few racks being replaced on here, also review websites were people put reviews up of their cars, also was reading a progress thread on another website , and the guy posted to say his steering rack needed replacing. I'm ex motor trade myself, worked across two ford svc departments so wasn't trying to come across as stupid or anything, just curious :)

Mine has just been replaced. Reading forums it seems more of the clio rs 197/200 have had steering issues than twingos but there have definitely been a few with issues on here

Ive needed to get mine replaced for a while now...

what problem is yours giving you? just mean is it noisey/ leaking etc. cheers

mine clicks and I can feel it knock through the steering wheel every time I turn, I got Renault to look it over and diagnose it.....

ive only had mine a few weeks, but ive noticed sometimes when I pull off the drive in the morning, if im turning the steering wheel at the same time, I can hear a clicking noise which feels steering related. im thinking steering rack most likely culprit? considering quite a few people have had steering rack problems

Please dont start reading medical journals as you're gonna convince yourself that youve got something really bad.
