As I've been applying for jobs and such these last few weeks I'm after members thoughts on what to wear to interviews.

With most interviews I'd normally have a good grasp; nice conservative clean cut suit, shirt and tie combo.

But with the jobs I'm applying for it is something of a grey area....

It's all media based jobs - digital editing, production etc - and most of these companies operate a dress-down policy. Ie: smart jeans, a shirt, nice jacket etc.

So... what do I wear?

I'd personally say stick with a suit, as long as you look sharp. It's much better to appear a little too smart, than look like someone who's underestimating the whole thing. And if you get there and you are quite overdressed, you could always remove the tie and undo the top button for a bit more of a relaxed approach

go smart mate, firts impressions are a lot, stay professional. If u get the job then let them tell you that you dont need to go to work suited and booted.

Also, if your in a suit, it will make u react to questionning more professional where as in casual clothes you may give more relaxed answers

yeah I agree look professional in a suit for the interview and give a good first impression then if you get the job and its not necessary day to day don't ware it.

suited and booted!
had an interview with company based around media, whilst all the staff working there were in hoodies and looked like your "media guy" the manager was in a suit. could tell he's profession came more from a business side then media and got a compliment on the suit :), shame he didnt give me the job :(

Looks like suit it is - 2 piece or 3 piece? May seem a silly question but waistcoats are certainly on the comeback and give an air of sophistication.... maybe too much?

wear what u feel best in mate, you need to feel comfortable yourself or your not going to settle into it properly,

So funny, I've been through all this stress sorting out my CV and cover letters to make them stand out, spent hours and hours doing free work to then spend further hours putting together my showreels and website and when I finally think the stress is over and the applications can go ahead.... then the extra stress of interviews beckon. I can fully appreciate why people find career changes a massively daunting idea.

Thing is I attended an interview last year and it was presented as an informal chat rather than interview. I went in smart jeans, smart shoes, shirt and suit jacket. Very media. Got the job too.

Go in your birthday suit and hope you get interveiwed by a nice young lady

I'd go suit trousers and a shirt, maybe a tie. No suit jacket, oh and shoes of course

Good luck!

good luck for it mate :)

long shot but have you done any vector graphics before?

Random, but yeah once. I did my signature in Illustrator. Wanted it as a vector as I wanted my whole CV to be vectors within a PDF.

Doesn't matter whether she was nice or not, I'm pretty sure if I did that I'd be escorted immediately off the premises!

Im thinking Shirt but no tie and no jackets. Smart bottoms and some nice shoes.
