Long distance

Okay so I've seen a few people talk about reasonably serious things on here so I thought I'd give it a go... It's not serious, just a bit more than banter or car talk.

Was down in Liverpool again to see this girl (I live in Essex, not far of Cambridge) and we decided to make it offical and have a go at the long distance thing. Make it offical and exclusive. I'm happy she's mine but realistically... Do long distance relationships ever work? Especially if they -start- long distance? And does anyone have any advice on how to make it work

I think it's possible for it to work. I was long distance with my gf for a year, but then we'd been together for a few years before that. I would say it's vary rare, but I have seen one relationship which started long distance work. (they're now married). I would say the big turning point is if you have a plan to be together. If you both know you're going to be close by, within a certain chunk of time, then I think you've got a much better shot at it working. If there's just an indefinite plan of being long distance, them you'll struggle a lot more (and have higher phone bills )

My two best mates have been in a long distance relationship since august last year, one lives in Canterbury and the other in Portsmouth! They skype everyday and see each other every few weeks! They've been getting on well and it just shows the trust hey have for each other!

It does work, my sister and her boyfriend are long distance (different countries), but he is in the R.A.F in the bottom of England, they argue at times, but what relationships at times don't? But they are having a good long distance relationship, but the both want to live closer but it can't happen at the moment.

It will take time, but best thing is phone call like every night or something.

Met my mrs when she came back to her home town on hols from uni, during her last year of uni. We were 60 miles apart, but there was no internet or mobile phones at the time.
She even had to take a teaching job in llantrisant after leaving uni while I was still in west wales.

We are still together over 21 years later and have been married for 18 years
