Hey,

I know i havent been active for a while because of a heavy work load, but as the title suggests, I need a new laptop.

I need one that is fast, store a fair bit. I have a few i will like, but i am just wondering if anybody could suggest a few.

Willing to spend up to £500.

Cheers for the help in advance.

Plenty of decent ones around for that sort of price I'm sure ;-)

I had a toshiba before my mac and it lasted me for 3 years brilliantly and is still going fine now its been passed on to my mum. Think it was about £750 at the time so probably similar spec for under your budget now!!

If theres one you like, then get it because if your like me you won't be happy with it if you don't :)

just bought one of these for gaming. cracking laptop so far. bungged in an extra 4gig DDR3 and in the process of buying the hard drive cover that will allow to fit a second hard drive (128gig SSD + the 500gig hard drive that shipped with the laptop)

SSD ftw

If you can afford one!! They've come down to 1gb per £1 ish now havent they?

That does look like a great buy! I wonder...
I wouldnt mind spending a little bit more for that.

That is soo weird, i was looking at that laptop, bcoz it has a semi-decent spec list.

The comet one has a bigger screen and I'd guess a slightly better graphics card, cpu is a tad bit slower but probably not noticeable....

I'd say the price difference reflects the differences between them!

That'll do anything non-gaming based with ease (it'll play games no problem at all, graphics will be pants though, but if you wanted to play games you'd buy a desktop right??? ;) )
I wish I had room for a desktop, a three bed room semi and a couple of kids taking up all possible room killed that. Needs must and a laptop is now the only way I keep sane

You won't be disappointed with the laptop I suggested fella. I'm a right fussy bugger when it comes to these things. The new sandyballs i5's are the way forward for bang for buck. I have recently played though the new deus ex on it, most if not all the details up at the native res of 1600x900. Only two negatives I have is you need a different hard drive bay cover to add a second disk and that there is only one USB2

Yup, such a speed increase.

tad bit over the 500 mark but the daddy of all laptops and helped dell brought them for better customer service **nightmare in the old days :(**
but again being the baby and 11" theres no CD drive

i tend to stick away from retail places like comet/pc world. charge over the world prices for slow out dated tech

They are awesome but personally 11" would do my head in.

Every so often comet etc can come up trumps, very very rare, the acer is also certainly not outdated spec, current gen cpu and graphics , diamond in the rough, very odd that they are selling much lower spec ones for nearly double that. I think it's cheap due to the 17", they must struggle selling, suppose the whole desktop replacement isn't for everyone.

Keep a eye on hot uk deals (that's where I spotted that acer)

I would love an alienware laptop, but i just dont have that much money! and i would want the 14" one

I replaced a desktop with an Acer Aspire 5740G last year, and it's the best move I ever made...

..a few months later, Mrs-H bought a 5742, and she's well impressed with it.
