Guys I need help! Our Thai student is downloading things via u torrent! I have asked her to stop once, and she hasn't, so I need to resort to other methods! It's making my xbox REALLY lag when I'm playing online. And I have a short temper..

So, I've tried installing mcafee which O2 gave me free on the pc and then using parental control to stop the sites she can get torrents from, but it only works for that pc. Anyway of doing it through the network??!

HELPPPP!!!

change the network passport and dont let her know it? (wireless im assuming?)

We have to provide internet access for her, but if it continues i will change it and i will notify the school...

but i would rather it not come to that and just block her from using utorrent, or bit torrent whatever one it is scroungers use these days..

Do you have access to the router config page? Sniff out the ports she is using and close them. Turn off upnp, which maybe being used to open the ports she is using

naa just block her mate... say she was downloading illegal films/music and u didnt wanna be responsible etc...

I would turn of upnp so then the bt software can't request ports to be opened. Close all other ports except the ones the sexbox uses. Then you wouldn't have to worry about the sniffing. Wireshark may do the sniffing but it's been ages since I have used it.

Just do a search on the interwebs for what ports u torrent uses, login to the router admin page and remove/block all port forward rules on the routing tables for those ports.

I'm confused as to how I can block the Ports... I have just done a system reset of the router as I think I might have broken something... All the Internet cut out :-S but I will see how I go and no doubt I'll be back for more help :)

I have checked. It can randomise the ports it uses and make upnp requests for the router to then open that port. I don't know if it is setup like that as default. Other torrent clients may use different ports.

Right, do i need to do something here?

And its a Thomson something or other o2 wireless router IV???

If there are no rules in the port forwarding etc I would turn off upnp. That stands a good chance of stopping her or at least she will get low speeds due to the ports not being open. It may stop the xbox from also working but just look up the ports it needs to game over xbox live, opening them up for the xbox's ip addy my guess is those settings are in the firewall section? No idea what extended security means, it will be on the web somewhere.

Ok, think I've done that bit properly... Will go have a play on the box and see if its working!

Cheers for your help :)
