as im still new to the twingo i was hoping someone could shed some light.

iv noticed that as i increase my speed, i get a slight crackle* noise just behind me on the drivers side. it sounds like it could be coming from the speaker, but the crackle* still persists even when the radio is switched off

* the crackle is a mixture of what sounds like road noise and white noise

it's hard to pin down as the slower i go, the quieter it gets till it eventually disappears when i stop. has anyone else had similar issues?

Wires shorting out perhaps? Worth a look behind the door card. Could be getting increasingly worse with higher revs due to alternator output?

many thanks... it's what i suspected, but needed another perspective. im gonna be ripping the centre console apart today to fit an aux out (somewhere) so ill take the door card out whilst im at it. cheers

i took the card off, but there are no wires there. i did find a piece of foam wrapped in cellophane jammed in the bodywork which i thought could be the cause, but after putting the foam back in minus the plastic wrap the noise still persists.

there's nothing much behind the door card so im still stumped

does it do it even with no stereo in? sounds like perhaps the exterior rub strip is vibrating?

clio's did tha quit a lot - not sure about the twingo.

at the moment im driving round without a stereo and is still doing it :(
it's not unbearable, but once you hear it, it's all you seem to hear. it's deffo coming from behind the drivers seat near the speaker. when i took the card off yesterday i checked for loose or broken clips but alas, couldn't find anything

that's not a bad shout, ill check that the clip isn't loose on the strip. it kinda sounds like quiet road noise so makes sense that it could be something outside the car rather than in

As opposed to removing the stereo have you tried dis-connecting the speaker you think is causing the problem?

Have you actually had someone in the back listening for it? I ask as I thought of an odd possibility based on a problem a friend had on their car. They thought there was an odd noise coming from behind them, after searching it came about that they'd got lots of dry leaf bits stuck just inside the air vent closest to the window which was blowing down the window and making it sound like the rustling noise was coming from behind them. Could be something to check for you, faster = faster forced air flow = more rustling?

i have no speaker there so i know it's nothing electrical but the sound seems to be coming from there - however that's an educated guess cos at speeds im trying to rubberneck to listen out for it. iv not had people in the back of it yet, but that's gonna be my next port of call. ill cram the wife in there and get her to listen, there's not much room back there so it'll have to be a short journey!

still cant find where the noise is coming from... i thought it had gone yesterday, although this morning it returned. the only variable i can think of is that this morning its wet. mebs its water being flicked up into a crevice somewhere

Water and mud flicks up behind the rear lights ALOT, have you tried taking them off and giving it a clean then try it on a dry day see if the noise is still there?

You'll be surprised at the amount of dirt that builds up behind them... Be warned lol.

i havent tried that. im gonna get the wife sat in back and listening out for any noises first, then i'll try taking things apart

Door seals?

From the outside, pushing the top of my doors makes the door seal creak a bit. Noticable at low speed on our bumpy drive but not a problem for me when going quicker.

after having the wife listen for the noise, she says it's also coming from the other side too. it's more noticeable in the wet, so im thinking waitey may be on to something with the mud flaps. i haven't got any, so im gonna fit a set and see if the noise stops
