Hi

I have a twingo 133 and its recently started to make a tempermental whine from the middle/back of the underside of the car. It happens at any time when the engine is on. It can do it on tick over when i first start it or driving along. It lasts for about 10-20 seconds and then fades away slowly.

If anyone knows what it is, it will be much appreciated
Thanks
seb

hi seb, sounds like one of three things. this could be blowing in the exhaust resonator, vibration on the hangers where metal is contacting metal or it could be a problem with the innards of the gearbox which would be directly under your knee where the gearstick is which would feel like the middle of the car. check that the exhaust mounts are secure and that the pipes arent blowing, check that the pipes arent contacting the rear axel and jack the front of the car up > place on axle stands and have a friend select 1st gear and get underneath the gearbox to see if you can hear the noise on tickover, either way this will be the best way to track the source of the problem.

hope this helps

One of the rear or mid section heat shields rattling/buzzing. One of mine is slightly annoying and has a buzz when you hit it, but I've not got around to working out exactly where. I've thought about getting underneath with a tube of Sikaflex and putting a blob onto the attachment points.
