Had my Cup for about 3 weeks now and am loving it. Done the de-bung, new headunit and components up front (broke a tweeter grill doing this :(, trying to find a replacement or other fix), then deadened the doors to stop the vibrations killing the mid and bass. Stereo now covers most of the road noise but I've noticed an odd noise that sounds like its coming from the front of the car, or maybe running down the centre (hard to tell).

It starts at around 2500 revs, most noticeable in 4th gear upwards. Its like a whirring/whining sound that increases in pitch as the revs/speed increases. Turning into corners and depressing the clutch makes no difference. Its not a rumble so I don't think its wheel bearings. At first I thought it might be the tyres but they seem to be wearing evenly or maybe resonance from somewhere. As I have a 3 month warranty I though it would be better to sort now if its a problem.

Not having owned a Twingo before I don't know if this is a normal thing or something else.

Also thinking of going from 17s to 16s with bigger tyres in the hope it will reduce road noise and hardness of the suspension - any thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance for any help.

gearbox engine mount underneath the battery tray no doubt :) open the bonnet, jack the car up on the front onto axle stands and go through the gears. notice excessive engine movement and vibration?

2500 will be in or near peak torque, especially in your lowest ratio gear which is 4th gear. best to use that warranty and get that noise checked out make sure they do road tests before hand etc to confirm this!

Thanks for the advice, will be booking in for Renault to look at asap. Having looked around for some info regarding gearbox engine mounts some other things that I had noticed seem to fit the diagnosis. I get a small jerk from the engine when changing up and a bigger jerk when changing down, also noticed it when moving off in first. I don't have any movement in the gear stick while driving but I'm assuming that this is something that comes later on as the problem gets worse?

I don't have a trolley jack or stands to get the car up to check - is there any other test I can do to check for the problem?

Squeezed myself under the car last night and had a fiddle with the exhaust heatshield as best I could. The noise hasn't gone, but its now quieter and only noticeable at 2500 - 3000 revs after which it seems to fade out. What I thought was road noise seems to be less loud now.

Think I'll get myself a trolley jack and some stands to have a proper go at it.
