Odd question:

Can you part exchange a car or a cheaper car with a bit of money your way?

For example:

Your car is £12,000
You want a car that is £10,500
Would they give you £1,500 (or a haggled figure)

Or would they just say no and send you on your way?

My reckoning is they wouldn't be interested and would tell you to go away?

I asked my girlfriends brother who's a car salesman, he said yes they would do that where he works (a main dealer garage), they will give you the value of your car even if you want a cheaper one from them in return.

Brilliant.
Thanks mate!:)

Gunna go test drive a 500 abarth next week!

Garages will, But I have been warned before that if you do this they may (depending on the garage) try and just give you a low trade price for your car. No harm in asking what they'll give you though.

There's some very nice looking Abarth 500s near me, but they seem very expensive for what you get.

the only thing is though rob, doing it that way, u have a lot more to lose than they do. say if they give u a grand and a car, they can make a lot more off your car, my advice is always trade up, u have more to gain that way

Be aware that not all Fiat dealers will service Abarths. Before I bought the Twingo I talked to my local Fiat dealer, and he told me the nearest Abarth service centre was (IIRC) somewhere in Staffordshire which is about 100 miles away. And with a 6000 service interval that wasn't good news!

6k service interval? That's freeking tiny! 6k intervals is Integra type r range.

Looking at the Abarth forums it looks like

Basic oil /oil filter change every 9K (6k for SS) or 1 year, and more service items every 18K

Same user name? Maybe they Googled you

6k servicing would make a mockery of any cheap running cost arguments :(

Especially given some of the prices some on there are paying. £175 for an oil change and £400->£500 for an actual service.
