Petrol mileage for my holiday!

Here is a task to get your brains working on a Thursday afternoon!

Me and the fiancé are going on a wee holiday in October.

Inverness - Manchester
Manchester - st Neots
St Neots - silverstone
Silverstone - Cumbernauld
Cumbernauld - Inverness

I have calculated roughly 1080 miles(give or take).

All mainly motorway roads (I think)

How much cash will I need for fuel for the whole trip?! (roughly)

I normaly budget on 3 tanks to get down (and back ) to silverstone area, with a bit of diversion allong the way, giving simillar mileage.

Thats allowing for a swift but not stuppid drive down, (about 10% over where traffic allows) and a bit of a play once in a while if you know what I mean

hmm..... I'm not really much help there! I havnt filled the tank up full since I got it, and I dnt have an mpg counter. Lol.

Going on an average of what most 133's get (300 miles per tank?, mine does 380 but its a 1.2)

it works out that you will need 3 and a bit tanks... so 4 for safety. my tank costs £51 pounds ish from empty, so to be safe... allow £200 for your fuel for this holiday of 1080 miles.

(I could be wrong... but it works out in my head )

Worked out with my avg 133 MPG you journey will cost approx £180 based on £1.31 p/l

"Roughly": 1080 miles divided by 30mpg times £6 per gallon

So, 1080 / 30 * 6 = £216

(If I'd done a "rough" £5 per gallon, it'd be the same £180 as Mr Ben's answer.

So - if we average my answer and Mr Ben's, we come up with a price of £198 - which is virtually the same as Tommy89's £200...
