The Department of Transport is to launch a consultation on increasing the speed limit on England and Wales' motorways from 70mph to 80mph.

Transport Secretary Philip Hammond said the current limit, introduced in 1965, was out of date due to "huge advances in safety and motoring technology"

Long time coming........?

yeah about time!

i remember hearing last year they had plans to change it, and plans to reduce residential to 20mph too?!

It's true, most people ignore the speed limit anyway.

I wonder if people will still go 10mph over when it changes to 80 though......

That's going to happen well in most cases at least. It's in our nature to push our luck wherever possible

80mph plus 10% plus a couple of mph leeway is 90mph so you shouldn't get booked ;)

won't affect me these days anyway, I only do 60 - 70 when I'm in the car and when I'm on the bike it'll mean I'm 50 mph over the limit not 60 mph
