Dropped the car off at the dealers this morning, the drivers seat is finally being stripped down and assessed for the knocking and movement when braking, accelerating etc.
The clicking from behind the steering wheel is being looked at also and I was told last time it might need a new rotary switch. Not sure what that is
There's a thud/knock which you can feel when moving steering wheel left to right when stationary and very slow speeds, not noticeable when moving. Steering has felt a bit vague recently.
Fortunately for once, I was able to replicate/demonstrate the noises to a mechanic and he admitted there's something wrong with a component in the steering assembly. When he drove it slowly and when moving the wheel parked up he commented on the knock you could physically feel through the floor.

I don't think the seat is covered under the extended warranty (nothing really ever is), but RUK have been excellent as always and last week they have already offered to pay 50% towards any repairs, as well as 50% of the diagnostic/labour charges. Obviously I'll be asking for more as 24,000miles it shouldn't need a new seat frame. They quoted an hour would be what I would be charged for the diagnostics but they've had it all day.

For once though I'm not bothered, the car has been excellent now all the little niggles have been sorted out: water pump, engine mounts, coil pack, lower ball joints

Just want the seat sorting and it'll be back to perfect.

I just need the arm rest to turn up from germany.
I'd like to plug this OBDii unit that was delivered today and play around with torque pro :)

well they didn't even look at it last Monday! Left the car there all day...
Anyway, left it with them today and just gave them a quick phonecall.
They're waiting on ruk to get back to them. It's getting a new rotary switch. She didn't mention the parts that were needed for the seat so I'll just have to wait and see. Also, they need to replace a part on the steering column/assembly; I have never even heard of the part what she mentioned! Lower something or other :s Not balljoints before anyone says that haha. I'm trying to remember what the part was :?

I had already been informed it was the rotary switch casuing the clicking sounds. I've only just realised this could be the cause of the indicator stalk not wanting to stay down when turning left

Edit:

Finally remembered, the part was the lower uj joint. Someone care to explain what this is?

Update:

Collecting the car later whilst they wait for parts on back order

Lower universal joint is covered under the extended warranty otherwise that's a cost of 300 fitted.
Seat frame isnt covered and fitting comes in at 800.
Rotary switch isn't covered and comes to 190 fitted.

Can't remember if I've got the price the wrong way round for the switch and uj joint.

Holly has been brilliant at ruk, they are paying 75% of the items not covered meaning I'm left with a bill for £239. Not arguing with that so collecting it later and booking it back in for a week or 2s time.

Ball joints are £365 iirc so you are right on them prices, i have had my ball joints changed twice (after they didn't fit them correctly the second time), the rotary switch was done to 'try' and stop a clicking noise from the front, this did not sort it... They can hear the noise whilst driving but because they cannot replicate the noise when it's on the ramp they wanted to charge me for them to replace quite a few things which ultimately might not even sort the issue!

Good luck hopefully they sort it!

Its not the lower ball joints. Its the lower universal joint which I believe is on the bottom of the column.

Hopefully it is the rotary switch causing the clicking I think it is as I've had two garages tell me the same

I was just quick reading my bad! will get Renault to check my Universal joint soon then, hopefully might sort it!

Universal joint was the cause of the knock when moving the wheel not the clicking although its probably worth getting it checked.
