Hi,

Just wondering if anybody runs the raised letter plates on road specifically the acrylic/plastic plates?

I'm thinking of getting a set as below, but having issues confirm with both the police and the dvla their thoughts on these (they're being typically unhelpful ill paste their replies below!)
I cant see anything in the DVLA information to say about raised lettering being an issue, they mention 3d but i believe they are referring to 3d effect letters
Pictures here : https://www.platesforcars.co.uk/3d_gel_resin_number_plates.html

Just wondered if anyone has had any issues? I'm planning on checking with my usual garage if they'd be would pass their mot as a final safeguard.

Many Thanks,
Frankie

DVLA Response:

Dear Ms Field

Thank you for your email received on 13/6/14. Your email reference number is 2139188.

The Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001; as amended came into force on 1 September 2001.

These Regulations govern the design; manufacture and display of vehicle registration number plates.
This includes:
Visibility
Strength
Reflectivity
These regulations also require a number plate to be marked with the following:
The number of the British Standard (BS AU 145d)
The name; trademark (or other means of identification) of the supplying outlet
Name and Postcode of the supplying outlet.
A copy of the British Standard can be obtained from The Stationary Office 0870 600 5522 or the British Standards Institute www.bsiglobal.com

Unfortunately DVLA has no further advise to give on the correct display of number plates.

I hope this is of help.

I got gel plates, as I raised the question on these type of plates a few people have pressed plates who kindly posted pics for me to see what they looked like..I think you would have to be very unlucky to get pulled with them if you keep them plain and simple and the spacing as normal got mine off eBay and they look great

speak to your MOT tester, tell him you'll slip him £30. sorted! a dodgy MOT can come in handy when you need it. but for your information, raised lettering is fine. there is NOTHING that states it's illegal, therefore it's not illegal ... it's that simple dude :)

as long as you conform to the usual british standards marks etc you'll be legal. as a rule of thumb, if any laws don't mention something ; it's legal! the law is black and white like that :p

Do what you like, f' da police?

You'll only get a warning worst case if there's even a problem not heard of any yet.

Take the plates off stick others on take it in

Get it checked

Put the old ones back on

Worst advice ever.

I'm sure there's a few po po on this forum who own twingos, also depends in the officer on duty who catches you as they might be stern and just fine you on the spot, if you repeatedly get caught you won't like the consequences.

Do as Oscar says, as long as of abides the DVLA rules and laws whatnot then there's nothing to worry about

Probably a £60 fine but could be up to £1000. Also, if its a private plate that your miss-spacing them you could loose the plate.

Nah its a not a personalised plate, and I don't want to mess about with the spacing/ typeface itself nor do I want any silly badges etc. Bar the raised lettering it would be just like standard with black font and the bs stuff laser engraved in the corner

I just wanted to spruce my plates up a bit but don't want issues with the police over it.

I know that people have run pressed plates and have no issues on the fact their raised (more the reflectivity that causes issues sometimes I believe) so I just wanted to check opinion and experience with people on the forum

I have pressed plates from dubmeister made at ultimate dubs and I've never had a problem but them have the correct bs... to make them legal
