Hey fellas,

Does anyone know how much a decent respray would cost? My mate has a mark2 golf in a hideous colour but in perfect nic so he wants to get the colour changed.

Is it a sickening amount or just about bareable?

Thanks!
Ben

Depends on colour, I'm sure a colour like focus RS green is £3000, for a normal colour all panels done properly I'd hazard a guess at £2000 unless he does his own prep then it would cost alot less

wrapping may be more cost effective unless he is prepared to bo a lot of the prep work to get it ready to spray.

Neil isn't another thing to consider is wouldn't insurance rise because you have to declare the colour change for a wrap or Respray and they're usually funny about this?

I've never done it but wouldn't you have to change the colour with dvla (in the log book n stuff)?

Not sure how the insurance companies would look at it.

A colour change should be declared to the DVLA and could be a finable offence if you didn't (beaten to it by charlie)

Insurance isn't bothered by colour change, you just need to make the DVLA aware

Say if my car was resprayed red but left the insurance certificate saying its blue surely it would matter as the insurance certificate would be incorrect?

Not for a wrap I believe. Only a permanent change of colour needs to be declared to DVLA (which I haven't checked out to anything official but from russzs). For my wrap, I merely had 'exterior decorative changes' for insurance which didn't alter my premiums

The insurance get their information from the DVLA, if you let them know its been done afterwards they would check the DVLA and then it would be changed...

I think colour may actually effect his premium.. He's 20 so I think a black car is seen are more 'boy racer' so they can justify charging more..fcuking stupid. Dvla wise he'd need to change his v5 I think??

3000! Fuuuuck. He was thinking about a deep blueish. I know he was debating prepping it all himself but he hasn't done anything like it before lol.

Only so expensive because its a 3 stage pearl coat IIRC (4 including primer),

As said with all the prep work done himself it won't cost much, my exs dad restored a Morris minor and to get it sprayed in a flat white after he'd done the prep he was quoted £800 or so.
