So I recently removed the rear seats out of the car and today I have been told that my insurance will now be invalid and I will need to inform the DVLA...
Any truth to this?

I suppose technically the V5C says it's a 4 seater (5 if it's a bench?) and you've turned it into a 2 seater... but that can only REDUCE insurance liability right?! They can't realistically moan that you've unbalanced the car because otherwise you couldn't put anything other than a helium balloon in the boot.

You'd think that removing seats lowers insurance, you'd be wrong, i did it in the corsa for admiral to tell me my insurance was going up bu £90 as it meant it was lighter and more dangerous apparently?

Shouldn't need to tell the dvla as its not a permanent change?

Ha! Wouldn't expect anything less from an insurance company! Any excuse at all to get more money out of you :/

Rear bench is still only two seats.

Yeah insurance companies would use this against you unfortunately. However, this could be deemed a temporary change perhaps if you were removing them for more room to load the car up. That won't stick though..

Ah looks like I will have to phone them in the morning and ask what it will cost... no doubt they will come up with some crazy rear seat removal premium of ridiculous amounts

I wish I could remove my rear seats, but nowhere to store them and I use them a fair bit!

Let us no how u get on with the insurance company!

A real insurance company such as Sky, Adrian Flux, Brentacre, Greenlight, etc etc wouldn't care less about something like this. A mainstream insurance company such as Admiral, Direct Line, etc will charge an admin fee and 30-50 quid probably!

Unless you do it online and usually avoid admin fees

I think Matt means making changes to your current insurance policy, afaik you can't make changes to current policies online?

I can.. I'm with Quinn Direct. I can change anything to do with my policy online.

I changed reg plates and alloys (didn't realise mine was an optional extra) without admin fees online.
