Not sure how many people know but Renault are releasing there first electric car in 2011 and then more in 2012 :D

Fluence

Zoe
Twizy

Kangoo is going to be the first on in 2011 the the Fluence in 2012. The other 2 will follow shortly after the Fluence.

For more info have a look here:-

I`ve read up on these and i quite like the Zoe but the battery life is pants, it would last me more than a day of driving back wards and forwards to work

I love the Twizy

Theres rumours Franch post office have already signed up for the kangoo vans

With Recent news of the Renault UK model range being slashed and the ZOE electric vehicle making it onto TV adverts, I just had a look into charging points.

Unless theres a step change in the avaliability for charging points and the technology to get a decent distance or a 5 minute 100% refill I can't see many being sold outside of the major cities. Heres a couple of maps and it looks like EV powered trips to Scotland are not going to be easy for a while

I think electric cars are the future but still have a long way to progress until we start seeing them as a sensible alternative .

The costs for starters seems to be quite high on new electric/hybrid cars and then there's the battery capacity and charge time.

Also have a read of the blog from the BBC reporter who roughly a year ago tried to drive from London to Edinburgh in an electric mini. Tbh I could have cycled it at the same pace, carrying at least the same amount of stuff..
