Ive been looking at bits i need to order for my car cleaning selection as i have cleaned my dads car and my own or shall i say half of mine due to the rain but have run out of a few bits. Looking down the list i see glazes and sealants. Can someone explain what they are for and when you apply them.

Sealants are an LSP (last stage product) like a wax. Can be used instead of a wax or under a wax. A wax shouldn't really be used under a sealant.

Benefits are they are made from synthetic materials that waxes don't tend to contain and as such are often very durable. They look different to a wax aswell. A wax usually looks very warm, whereas a sealant tends to looks glassy and very reflective. Some prefer one, others prefer the other. They also come in liquid form usually and as such are easy to apply.

Glazes are simply to add shine between polishing/claying and leave a good base for a sealant or wax. Mind what you use though, any glaze with an oil can NOT be used before a sealant. Sealants will not bond properly to an oily glaze. Oily glazes will only work with waxes. Acrylic glazes work with both sealants and waxes

What were you thinking of using?

Well it depends if you wanna get into the realms of nano sealants (nanolex, gtechniq, wolfs...)

I haven't used nanolex yet (but got the wheel sealant ready to go when I get my car) but have used gtechniq and wolfs. Wolfs outperforms gtechniq c2.

As for glazes, chemical guys do many good ones, vertuabond is a bit of a hidden gem that I recently started using and having recommended it to many, they all agree it's very good and leaves a good base for both waxes and sealants. Otherwise... lime prime lite makes a nice oily glaze for waxes .

Ive use Poorboys White diamond glaze before using dodo supernatural the results are awesome depth and even covers swirls etc

Lime prime lite
Poorboys white Diamond glaze
Dodo supernatural

I don't glaze it all the time probably every month but wax every week

Poorboys black hole im thinking for a glaze for my car what do we think ?

I noticed on the sealant they have red mist and i have that already :)

Black hole is very good. FIlls very very well when worked by machine.

Leaves a good acrylic base for waxes and sealants alike. Red mist by itself though will only last a couple of weeks.

Think i shall be adding black hole to the order list.

I also have Last touch but i use that on my wheels.

Last touch on wheels? First I've ever heard of that! I use last touch as either a clay lubricant, drying aid or as a wipe down on a mildly dusty car (and by that I mean dust attracted to a car that's not been driven since it was washed in a few hours and nothing more!)

I use it as a little protection plus im trying to us it up

Just as a note... it offers no protection! Red mist works well between washes on wheels though. Do you not have a dedicated wheel sealant?

Nope ive only just got into detailing. I have always kept my car clean and shinny but never gone all out only just use to wash and polish then started using last touch for when i arrived at car shows. But enjoy cleaning my car so fought i would go to the next stage of car cleaning

How it starts. I was never interested until I bought a brand new car and decided I wanted to keep it looking clean, then found detailingworld which then raped my wallet

I wont touch detailing world or i4detailing as i know i will get carryied away  so the members here who are into detailing i find are really helpful and getting me off to a good start slowly :)

Just ordered another bottle of snow foam and black hole :)

I haven't bougth any snow foam for ages. Still got 12 litres or so to go in my barrel :p

I bought a 1L to start me off thats got a little left so just ordered a 5L :)

I split 25 litres with magpiev6 before christmas, but also had another 10 litres made up of different variants from before lol. Oh yeah, I have it bad. I've decided on the LSP for my car

I'm using Zaino all in one followed by 3x zaino z2 topped with swissvax best of show :D

And wheel sealants are deffo worth using. I've chosen nanolex premium paint and wheel sealant. Supposed to last for a very, very long time.

I was thinking of getting poor boys the pink stuff. Need to get my wheels off and give them a good clean first though
